PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gary RodneyField (ranked 24440 p4p, 565 weight class) and Bill Kelly (ranked 3669 p4p, 380 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Gary RodneyField has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gary RodneyField seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gary RodneyField!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bill Kelly!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Steven Brown and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kelly bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

It looks like Kelly might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Kelly tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
A lull in the action here as Kelly stalls from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
RodneyField is pushing Kelly's head away, looking to escape. Kelly manages to hold on to the position though.

Kelly tries to advance to mount but RodneyField denies him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
RodneyField is letting Kelly control him for a moment.
Kelly is looking to take a break and control but RodneyField is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Kelly is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down RodneyField's shoulder. That is not cool.
Kelly wants to control but RodneyField is keeping him busy.
RodneyField stops Kelly from passing to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Kelly goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, RodneyField has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kelly but great work by RodneyField.

RodneyField decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Kelly gets a double leg takedown into RodneyField's guard.

RodneyField has his foot on Kelly's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kelly works his way back into a safe position though.

RodneyField is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kelly defends well.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

RodneyField seems a little lost for a moment, as Kelly dominates the positioning.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

RodneyField gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Kelly takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Let's hope that Kelly has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kelly fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but RodneyField avoids it really well and circles away.
RodneyField changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Kelly looks for a takedown but RodneyField sprawls well.
RodneyField tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kelly sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten RodneyField somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kelly.
Gary RodneyField has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Kelly.

Kelly will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kelly looks for a takedown but RodneyField sprawls well.

RodneyField closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kelly circles away.
Kelly dives in and grabs RodneyField's left leg, looking for a takedown. RodneyField pushes down on Kelly's head and hops out.
RodneyField drops down looking for a counter takedown but Kelly sprawls and moves away.
Kelly misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
RodneyField shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kelly pinned against the cage. Kelly gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Despite the aggression on Kelly's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

RodneyField swats away the attempt to clinch by Kelly.
Kelly has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as RodneyField is landing a low percentage of strikes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kelly looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Kelly is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in RodneyField's half guard.

Kelly is pressing down on RodneyField's thigh, looking to free his foot. RodneyField is holding on for now.

Bill Kelly showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Kelly looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? RodneyField is fending him off so far but Kelly persists. Nope, RodneyField circles away and we're back to standing.

Kelly changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. RodneyField tries to avoid it but Kelly manages to keep hold of a leg and drag RodneyField to the ground. RodneyField escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Gary RodneyField has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Kelly.

Kelly closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Kelly remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

RodneyField leaves Kelly with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
RodneyField looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kelly is fending him off so far but RodneyField persists. Nope, Kelly circles away and we're back to standing.
Kelly tries to bum rush RodneyField with a series of wild strikes but RodneyField uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

RodneyField drops down looking for a counter takedown but Kelly sprawls and moves away.
