Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Wooden Pencil (ranked 2752 p4p, 337 weight class) and James Steel (ranked 3141 p4p, 369 weight class). Pencil comes to the cage accompanied by Full Retard. James Steel has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Wooden Pencil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 18 - 1, fighting out of New York, James Steel!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel looks to throw the jab but Pencil is out of range.
Pencil looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Steel throws a big shot that misses.
Pencil swats away the attempt to clinch by Steel.
Steel connects with a crisp jab.
James Steel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pencil takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Pencil misses with a looping right.
Pencil takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pencil misses with a looping left.
Pencil lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Steel connects with a body shot.
Steel avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Steel has taken the fight to the clinch.

Pencil is trying to break the clinch but Steel is controlling him.

A frustrated look appears on Pencil's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Steel works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Steel is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Steel wants to control from the top but Pencil keeps moving.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Steel working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Steel stands and throws Pencil's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Steel is looking to take a break and control but Pencil is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Pencil is trying to get back to his feet.

Steel is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Pencil knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Steel content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Steel working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Pencil is trying to get back to his feet.

James Steel dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Pencil counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Pencil prevents the takedown attempt.
Steel is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Pencil is defending well.
Pencil looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Pencil is trying to push Steel away but Steel has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Steel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Pencil tried to score with a low kick but Steel checks it.
Pencil lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.


It looks like James Steel has been cut.
Pencil bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Steel catches Pencil with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Steel tries to close the distance and clinch but Pencil swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Pencil moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Steel cracks Pencil with a good jab.
Steel throws a right and a left that both miss.
Pencil drops down looking for a counter takedown but Steel sprawls and moves away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pencil takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Steel fails in his attempt to clinch.
Steel bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
A jab from Pencil does it's job there.
Steel misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Steel uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Pencil takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Pencil misses with an attempted mid kick.
Pencil doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Steel might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Pencil throws a low kick, looking for Steel's leg but Steel calmly moves out of range.
Pencil ducks under a wild hook from Steel.
James Steel seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Pencil scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Steel drives through with a takedown into Pencil's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Pencil is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Steel has just dragged him back down to the mat.

That was a close second round but I would say that Wooden Pencil will probably get the nod.

Steel swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Pencil has had enough of the clinch but Steel keeps him there for the moment.
Steel goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pencil prevents it.
Steel has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Pencil is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Pencil drops down looking for a counter takedown but Steel sprawls and moves away.
Steel avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Steel misses with a wild combination.
Steel shoots in for a double leg but Pencil sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Pencil appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Wooden Pencil has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Steel.
Steel swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Pencil.

Steel is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pencil.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Steel tries to land a sweep but no joy.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Steel holds on and takes a little breather.

Pencil would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Steel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pencil defends well.
Steel is trying to keep Pencil in close.
Steel looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Pencil puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Steel works his way to full guard. Good work.
Steel is trying to control the position but Pencil postures up.
Pencil tries to stand but Steel is controlling from the bottom.

Steel has his foot on Pencil's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pencil works his way back into a safe position though.
Pencil wants to stand but Steel is controlling his posture from full guard.

Pencil stands and steps away. Steel gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Steel fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pencil, pushing him back against the cage.

Pencil manages to break the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to James Steel.
Well Steel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
