PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sparky Anderson (ranked 1417 p4p, 182 weight class) and Jerome Alviso (ranked 2694 p4p, 302 weight class). Alviso has chosen Pooh Man-Oakland as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 46 - 29 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jerome Alviso!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson scores with a jab to the head.
Alviso misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Anderson's corner calls for a 1-2. Anderson obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Alviso stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Alviso wants it to stay on the feet.
Alviso tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Anderson defends well and Alviso ends up having to push Anderson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Alviso misses with a two punch combination.
Jerome Alviso seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alviso changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Anderson tries to avoid it but Alviso manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Anderson to the ground. Anderson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sparky Anderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerome Alviso.

Alviso closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Anderson did well to prevent Alviso getting side control.

Anderson tries to kick Alviso off but Alviso keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Anderson is trying to stand back up but Alviso is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Alviso looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Alviso missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Anderson is trying to stand up here but Alviso is controlling him well.
Alviso throws a strike but Anderson avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Anderson wants to stand up but Alviso is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alviso throwing strikes from guard but Anderson blocks nicely.
Alviso slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Alviso working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Alviso looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Anderson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Alviso.
Anderson wants to stand and escape but Alviso is having none of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Alviso takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Alviso shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Anderson but Anderson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Anderson was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Anderson lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Alviso misses with a takedown attempt
and Anderson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Alviso tries to clinch there but Anderson circles away.
Sparky Anderson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Anderson throws a head kick but Alviso moves out of range.
Anderson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Anderson lands a leg kick that knocks Alviso off balance momentarily.
Alviso tries for a takedown but Anderson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Anderson scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Jerome Alviso has been cut.
Alviso tries to clinch but Anderson moves out of range.
Alviso is looking to clinch.
Anderson fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Alviso.
Anderson fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Alviso on the side of the head.
Anderson circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Alviso drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Anderson follows Alviso to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sparky Anderson!
In his post fight interview, Sparky Anderson started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
The defeated Jerome Alviso had this to say: 'My dad and brother are going to kick my ass again when I get home...'.
