PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Patterson (ranked 7250 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyler Johnson (ranked 5340 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyler Johnson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyler Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson avoids the body shot from Johnson.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Johnson misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Patterson tries to reverse the position but Johnson maintains control.

Johnson moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Patterson has worked his arm free - good work by Patterson!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Patterson lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Patterson thows a strike but Johnson uses the opportunity to reverse the position! Great move by Johnson as he ends up in Patterson 's guard!
Johnson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Johnson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Patterson is trying to keep an underhook but Johnson manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Johnson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Patterson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Johnson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Johnson is stalling here. Patterson is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Johnson seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Patterson has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Patterson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Johnson's shoulder. That is not cool.
Patterson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Patterson stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Patterson gets caught napping as Johnson dives in and scores a takedown. Patterson manages to retain guard.

Patterson manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That was a close second round but I would say that Frankie Patterson will probably get the nod.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Patterson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Johnson's head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Patterson is working away from the top position though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Johnson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Johnson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Patterson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Patterson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Patterson wants to stand up but Johnson is controlling him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

I would just about give that final round to Tyler Johnson.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
