Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sheldon Hammond (ranked 7621 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jaxson Kane (ranked 2989 p4p, 0 weight class). Jaxson Kane has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sheldon Hammond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jaxson Kane!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kane gets a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Hammond's face as he tries to break the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Kane manages to break the clinch.

Kane looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Hammond might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kane wants to stand but Hammond has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Hammond working for a triangle but Kane defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kane trying to control the position from guard on top but Hammond is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kane sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hammond's guard.
Kane is keen to just control but Hammond is a slippery customer.
Hammond controlling the position well.
Hammond makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hammond.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kane slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hammond keeping moving, preventing Kane from controlling successfully.
Kane engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kane throws a head kick but Hammond moves out of range.

Kane closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hammond successfully pulls guard.
Kane wants to control from the top but Hammond keeps moving.
Hammond keeping full guard, as Kane tries to pass.
Hammond pulls Kane in close to prevent any damage.
Hammond continues to stall.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Kane tries to free his leg and advance position but Hammond is retaining full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kane swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Hammond manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kane on his heels. He'll look to pass Kane's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hammond chips away with some ground and pound.

Kane is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hammond is aware though and is defending well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hammond connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kane looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Hammond closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kane's guard.
Hammond with a nice head shot there.
Kane not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kane has his foot on Hammond's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hammond works his way back into a safe position though.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hammond's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Hammond could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hammond with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kane throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kane has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Hammond has passed into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kane takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hammond is putting a hurting on Kane here, landing some big shots from side control.

Kane taking punishment in the form of punches.

Hammond is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kane is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kane tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hammond wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kane is breathing heavily.
Hammond prevents Kane from escaping the position.
Kane is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hammond connects with a decent elbow.

Hammond goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kane has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Hammond but great work by Kane.
Hammond avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kane.

Kane wants to stand but Hammond is controlling his arm.
Hammond has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kane is looking to take a break and control but Hammond is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Hammond's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hammond prevents Kane from improving position.
Kane is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Hammond can't do much from the bottom here.

Hammond regains half guard there - taking advantage of Kane's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hammond is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sheldon Hammond will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Kane clinches up with Hammond and pushes him back against the cage.
Hammond is trying to push Kane away but Kane has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Kane pulls Hammond into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kane is on top in guard.

Kane must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kane not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Kane throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hammond works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Hammond holds on and takes a little breather.

Kane in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hammond changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kane tries to avoid it but Hammond manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kane to the ground. Kane escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hammond fails with a takedown attempt.

Kane fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hammond sprawls well initially but Kane persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kane is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hammond has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kane takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kane content to control rather than advance.
Kane is trying to control the action in half guard but Hammond is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Hammond is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Kane throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hammond tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kane is in Hammond's guard.

Hammond is doing well to control the position and prevent Kane from advancing to side control.

Jaxson Kane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kane has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
