PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Reggie Roberson (ranked 5333 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chan Kong Sang (ranked 4383 p4p, 0 weight class). Chan Kong Sang told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Reggie Roberson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Chan Kong Sang!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roberson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kong Sang circles away.
Roberson has his takedown stuffed
and Kong Sang counters with a straight right hand.
Kong Sang fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Chan Kong Sang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kong Sang misses the jab.
Roberson fails with a takedown attempt.
Kong Sang let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Reggie Roberson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kong Sang lands with a straight right. Roberson didn't see that one coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kong Sang misses with a hook.
Roberson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kong Sang manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kong Sang throws a series of punches but Roberson moves out of range.
Roberson is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Kong Sang.
Roberson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kong Sang moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Roberson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kong Sang as he jumps to the side.
Kong Sang misses with a double jab.
Roberson tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Kong Sang manages to circle out of the way.
Kong Sang throws a combination that misses

and Roberson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kong Sang won't be happy with that.
Kong Sang bucks up and tries to throw Roberson off but instead Roberson has got his back!
Roberson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kong Sang rolls, trying to escape but Roberson keeps control of the position.
Kong Sang keeps trying to improve his position.

Roberson is looking for a choke. Kong Sang gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Kong Sang manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Roberson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Roberson is on top in guard.

Roberson postures up in Kong Sang's guard and throws a big left but Kong Sang blocks it.
Roberson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kong Sang looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Roberson is defending well. Kong Sang quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Roberson has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Kong Sang celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Chan Kong Sang!
A relieved looking Chan Kong Sang thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
