Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Connor Joieson (ranked 4609 p4p, 197 weight class) and Yaniv Schulmann (ranked 1992 p4p, 101 weight class). Connor Joieson has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Connor Joieson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yaniv Schulmann!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Reed Andrews and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Joieson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schulmann defending against the ground and pound.
Schulmann is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Schulmann manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Schulmann moves into full guard.
Schulmann looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Joieson postures up.
Schulmann wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Joieson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Schulmann, up you get!
Joieson takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Joieson closes the distance and clinches.

Schulmann throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Schulmann is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Joieson tries to reverse the position but Schulmann maintains control.
Joieson is bucking up trying to escape but Schulmann cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Joieson sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Joieson is trying to get back to full guard.
Schulmann wants to free his trapped foot but Joieson is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Schulmann is thwarting Joieson's attempts to control the position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Schulmann connects with a nice short shot to Joieson's temple.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Schulmann tries to pass to full mount but Joieson defends it.
Schulmann content to control rather than advance.
Joieson is not content to let Schulmann control the position.
Schulmann keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Schulmann prevents Joieson from standing back up.

Schulmann is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Joieson wants to control but Schulmann is keeping busy.

Schulmann is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Joieson defends it well.
Joieson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Joieson trying to control from the bottom.
Joieson is refusing to be controlled, as Schulmann sits in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Joieson tries to clinch up.
Schulmann tries a quick counter leg kick but Joieson is wise to it.
Schulmann connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Joieson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Schulmann's guard.

Joieson stands up from Schulmann's guard - Joieson perhaps looking for a knockout.
Schulmann shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Joieson as he avoids it easily.

Joieson clinches up with Schulmann and pushes him back against the cage.

Joieson gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Joieson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Schulmann's head.
Joieson throwing strikes but missing.

Schulmann escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Joieson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Yaniv Schulmann will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Schulmann shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Joieson as he avoids it easily.
Joieson swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Schulmann wants to land a leg kick but Joieson is out of range.
Connor Joieson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Joieson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Schulmann to the mat! Schulmann manages to get full guard.
Joieson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Joieson stands up from Schulmann's guard - Joieson perhaps looking for a knockout.

Schulmann moves into the clinch successfully.
Schulmann makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Joieson has picked Schulmann up - he's going for a ride! Joieson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Connor Joieson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Joieson uses his free foot to push down on Schulmann's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Schulmann.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Joieson scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Joieson trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Schulmann tries to hold on but Joieson pushes him away.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Joieson with shots to the head and body - Schulmann looks very uncomfortable down there.
Joieson is landing with some decent strikes but Schulmann is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Joieson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Schulmann can do to turn this around?

Schulmann tries to reverse the position but Joieson maintains control.
Joieson with shots to the head and body - Schulmann looks very uncomfortable down there.
Schulmann tries to lock up and control but Joieson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Joieson cracks Schulmann with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Joieson trying to control but Schulmann is having none of it.
Schulmann is in a horrible position here. Joieson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Joieson blocks Schulmann's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
Schulmann keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Joieson lands a heavy elbow.


Schulmann is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Joieson fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Schulmann is still in real trouble! Can Joieson finish him?
Schulmann really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Schulmann gets back to half guard.

Schulmann preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Joieson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Schulmann wants to get back to full guard.
Joieson trying to control the action but Schulmann is working from the bottom.
Schulmann is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Schulmann seems to have recovered his senses.

Joieson wants to clinch.

Joieson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Schulmann has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Joieson should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Schulmann has tightened it up now! Joieson should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Yaniv Schulmann!
An out of breath Yaniv Schulmann thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
