PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alonzo Trotter (ranked 3168 p4p, 338 weight class) and Billy Bush (ranked 5226 p4p, 493 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alonzo Trotter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 27 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Billy Bush!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Paul Aken and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Trotter shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bush napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Trotter taking a break here but Bush is having none of it and regains half guard.
Still in half guard, Trotter seems content to control.

Trotter is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bush sees it coming and defends easily.
Trotter working the head and body with strikes.
Bush wants to control but Trotter is keeping busy.
Bush works his way to full guard. Good work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Trotter doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trotter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Trotter avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Trotter wants to clinch.
Trotter wants to clinch up but Bush keeps it at a distance.

Bush lands a hook that snaps the head of Trotter backwards.

Trotter is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bush is defending well.
Bush avoids a wild elbow strike from Trotter.
Trotter with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Trotter misses with a hook to the ribs.
Bush working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.

Bush breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Trotter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bush tries to avoid it but Trotter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bush to the ground. Bush escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Bush misses with an uppercut.

Trotter shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bush is trying to defend but Trotter finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Trotter has gone for a leg lock! Bush slips out almost immediately though and dives into Trotter's guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Billy Bush dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bush swats away the attempt to clinch by Trotter.
Bush moves out of range as Trotter strikes.
Trotter is looking to clinch.

Trotter manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bush on his heels. He'll look to pass Bush's guard now, I'm sure.
We've been hearing that Trotter has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Trotter won't allow Bush to sweep him here.
Trotter slips nicely into half guard.
Bush makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bush.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Trotter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bush swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Trotter drops back, looking for a kneebar! Bush looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Bush looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Bush!

Bush goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Trotter has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bush but great work by Trotter.

Check out the look on Trotter's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Trotter swings around for an armbar but Bush sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Trotter's guard.
Trotter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Bush wants to control from the top but Trotter keeps moving.

Trotter tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Bush not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Bush is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Bush throws the left hand but Trotter avoids the punch easily.

Billy Bush showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Trotter is trying to maintain a safe position but Bush gets an underhook and turns Trotter into the cage.
Bush has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

and Trotter counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Bush thinking.
Trotter walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Bush is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Trotter with a body shot.
Trotter on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Bush fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Trotter.
Billy Bush seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Bush wants to slow Trotter down by chopping away at his legs.
Trotter is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Bush.

Bush throws out a counter right but Trotter avoids it with no problem.
Bush walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Bush looks to land a left hand but Trotter moved out of range nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Trotter looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Trotter tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bush paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Alonzo Trotter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Trotter takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

enabling Bush to counter with a crisp jab.

Trotter decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Trotter jabs Bush to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Bush scores with a sloppy right hand. Trotter should have avoided that one.
Trotter shoots in looking for a takedown. Bush tries to sprawl out of it but Trotter keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bush manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alonzo Trotter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bush lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Trotter swings and misses with a hook to the body.

A head punch on the inside from Trotter fails to land.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Billy Bush comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bush has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
