OC! Grappling 7 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between TJ Hearts (ranked 2051 p4p, 240 weight class) and Aloysius Martin Thesz (ranked 3865 p4p, 372 weight class). Aloysius Martin Thesz told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 1 losses; TJ Hearts! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 21 wins and 15 losses; Aloysius Martin Thesz!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Donald Grub and James Atkins.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Hearts closes the distance and pushes Thesz back into the cage.
Thesz has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hearts avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Thesz wants a takedown.
Thesz has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hearts after a bit of a struggle.
TJ Hearts has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aloysius Martin Thesz.
Hearts wants a takedown but no success here.
Thesz stops a takedown attempt from Hearts.
Thesz is pressed up against the cage. Hearts has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Thesz down to the mat. Thesz avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Hearts rushes Thesz and presses him up against the cage.
Hearts gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Thesz.
Thesz drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hearts pulls his leg out and moves away.
Hearts slaps away a takedown attempt from Thesz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hearts definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Hearts is looking to clinch.

Thesz tries to keep at a distance but Hearts has taken the fight into the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Thesz tightens his grip and picks Hearts up, before dumping him to the ground. Hearts manages to land in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Hearts's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thesz has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Hearts has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Hearts is having to fend off submission attempts from Thesz, who is looking to sink in the choke. Thesz doesn't have the hooks in though and Hearts manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Thesz has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Hearts stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thesz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hearts is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Thesz controls Hearts momentarily but Hearts frees himself.

Thesz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Thesz has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Blake Phoenix's Champion Factory. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Hearts is controlling an arm, preventing Thesz from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hearts is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Thesz has taken his back.

Thesz wins on points by 33 to 2.
Aloysius Martin Thesz opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
