PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edmundo Ware (ranked 5283 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rip Tugger (ranked 5293 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Edmundo Ware!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rip Tugger!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tugger shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Ware is trying to defend but Tugger finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Ware is trying to control but can't.
Tugger trying to pass the guard but Ware defending well.
Tugger content to control rather than advance.
Ware keeping control of the position.
Tugger stalling away here and it's allowed Ware to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tugger throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Ware lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ware postures up in Tugger's guard and throws a big left but Tugger blocks it.

Tugger pulls Ware in close to his closed guard and prevents Ware from doing any damage or advancing position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tugger has momentary wrist control but Ware slips an elbow through the middle.
Ware postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ware misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Tugger drives through with a takedown into Ware's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Ware has control of Tugger's left arm, preventing Tugger from doing any damage.
Ware has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Ware.

Tugger is looking to work some ground and pound but Ware has wrist control.
Ware bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Tugger's guard.

Edmundo Ware dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Tugger closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ware is holding Tugger down, trying to stall.
Tugger postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Tugger lands a nice forearm strike.
Ware is trying to control Tugger's posture but Tugger avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ware is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tugger is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Tugger is looking to take a break and control but Ware is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

You can see the frustration on Ware's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ware really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Tugger landing a few strikes.
Tugger is looking to take a break and control but Ware is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Tugger content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Tugger takes the fight into the clinch.

Tugger's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Ware working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tugger doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tugger manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Ware working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tugger doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tugger manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Tugger must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Tugger stands and throws Ware's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Rip Tugger showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Ware shoots for a double leg takedown but Tugger sprawls well. He's pushed Ware's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ware fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Tugger sprawls well initially but Ware persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Tugger wants to control but Ware is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Tugger has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ware is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tugger doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ware.

Ware thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Tugger's head.

Tugger has hold of Ware's hands but Ware slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ware lands strikes from half guard.
Ware will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ware lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Ware scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Tugger really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ware. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ware is thwarting Tugger's attempts to control the position.
Tugger wants to get back to his feet.
Tugger keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Tugger takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
