Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Potter (ranked 2459 p4p, 299 weight class) and Sisu Okunaba (ranked 3136 p4p, 374 weight class). Okunaba has chosen Youssou Ndour - Thiapathioly as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Potter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sisu Okunaba!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Okunaba lands with an overhand left.
Sisu Okunaba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Okunaba misses with an uppercut.
A punch combination from Okunaba misses.
Potter shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Okunaba sprawls well. Okunaba wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Potter gets slowly back to his feet.
Potter throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Okunaba let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

Potter manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Okunaba on his heels. He'll look to pass Okunaba's guard now, I'm sure.
Potter passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Okunaba is working to avoid the ground and pound but Potter connects with a decent elbow.

Potter is trying to get an arm triangle but Okunaba is defending well.

Potter has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Potter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Okunaba is looking for a sweep. Potter is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Potter is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Potter is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Okunaba sees it coming and defends easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Potter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Okunaba is just riding it out for now. Potter eventually gives up the hold.

Okunaba has given up his back here. Will Potter look for the submission or keep pounding away?
Okunaba is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Potter off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Okunaba turns into Potter and is now in his guard.
Okunaba must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Potter wants to sweep but no luck.
Okunaba sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Potter's guard.

Potter pulls Okunaba in close to his closed guard and prevents Okunaba from doing any damage or advancing position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Potter is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Okunaba wants to improve his position but Potter is controlling well.
Potter passes to full mount!
Okunaba wants to hold on but Potter pushes him away.
Okunaba is wriggling around trying to escape.
Potter manages to capitalize on a mistake by Okunaba to take his back!
Potter controlling well, preventing Okunaba from escaping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Potter is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Okunaba is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Potter dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Okunaba changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Okunaba feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Potter's calf.

Potter takes one on the button.
Okunaba wants to clinch.
Potter throws a low kick but Okunaba avoids it.

Potter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Okunaba to the ground. Potter is now in Okunaba's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Potter lands a couple of elbows.

Potter wants to control from the top but Okunaba keeps moving.

Okunaba escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Potter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Okunaba throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Potter escapes and throws Okunaba's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Potter lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Potter as Okunaba tries to tie him up.
Okunaba is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Potter can't get the takedown.
Potter is trying to break the clinch but Okunaba has him pressed against the cage.
Okunaba swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Okunaba is working Potter over against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Okunaba keeps control of Potter as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Potter is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Okunaba creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Potter's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Okunaba tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Potter's elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sisu Okunaba showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Okunaba stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Potter punishes Okunaba's body with a nice straight punch.
Okunaba tries to clinch but Potter moves out of range.
Potter avoids the head kick by Okunaba.
Okunaba throws a right and a left that Potter avoids nicely.
Potter takes a swing at Okunaba's ribcage but misses.
Potter shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Okunaba but Okunaba pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Okunaba lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Potter has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Potter and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Okunaba cracks Potter with an open hand slap.

Okunaba is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Potter off and has taken his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Okunaba manages to capitalize on a mistake by Potter to take his back!

Alexander Potter overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Potter seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Okunaba does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Alexander Potter.
I think Potter has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
