Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jacques Marquez (ranked 25112 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gilbert Gottfried (ranked 25232 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jacques Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Gilbert Gottfried!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gottfried shoots and misses
and Marquez counters with a left to the body.
Gottfried shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Marquez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Marquez showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Marquez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Gottfried holds on and takes a little breather.
Marquez content to stall in guard here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gottfried is working an open guard so Marquez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Gottfried fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Marquez, pushing him back against the cage.

Gottfried pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gottfried tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Marquez swivels and escapes.
Jacques Marquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gilbert Gottfried.

Gottfried feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Marquez is trying to control the position but Gottfried postures up.

Marquez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gottfried can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gottfried throws a big elbow that misses.
Gottfried is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gottfried wants to stand and escape but instead Marquez has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Marquez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Gottfried wants to stand up but Marquez is controlling him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Marquez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Gottfried keeping moving, preventing Marquez from controlling successfully.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Gottfried shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Marquez pinned against the cage. Marquez gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Gottfried misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Gottfried throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marquez's waist but Marquez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gottfried off to one side.

Gottfried closes the distance and pushes Marquez back into the cage.

Marquez jumps guard but Gottfried stands there with Marquez around his waist. Marquez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Marquez wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Gottfried just misses with a elbow thrown towards Marquez's brow.
Gottfried is working for takedown but Marquez is calmly controlling the position for now.

Marquez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gottfried as he avoids it easily.
Nice takedown defense from Gottfried. No joy for Marquez on that attempt.
Gottfried looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Marquez is fending him off so far but Gottfried persists. Nope, Marquez circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gottfried shoots in for a takedown but Marquez shows good takedown defense.
Gottfried shoots in for a double leg but Marquez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Gottfried dives in and grabs Marquez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marquez pushes down on Gottfried's head and hops out.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marquez takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Gilbert Gottfried seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Marquez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gottfried walks away with a smile on his face. Marquez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Gottfried counters with a nice uppercut.

Marquez throws a knee to the head but misses.
Gottfried lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Marquez pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Gottfried keeps control of Marquez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Gottfried closes the distance and clinches up with Marquez, looking for a takedown. Gottfried pushes Marquez against the cage but Marquez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Marquez tries to counter by clinching up but Gottfried breaks away and moves out of range.
Gottfried shoots for a takedown but Marquez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Marquez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Gottfried shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Gottfried was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Marquez seems a little lost for a moment, as Gottfried dominates the positioning.
Marquez is trying to control Gottfried's posture but Gottfried avoids it.

Marquez tries to bench press Gottfried off him but Gottfried keeps the position.
Marquez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Gottfried throws a right hand that Marquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Marquez also avoids with ease.

Gottfried breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gottfried goes for a double leg but Marquez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Marquez continues to drive forward.

Gottfried looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Gottfried seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Marquez tries to get to full guard but Gottfried has control of the leg.

Gottfried with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Let's hope that Gottfried has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Gottfried missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Gottfried has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Marquez is looking for a sweep. Gottfried is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Marquez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Gilbert Gottfried showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Gottfried rushes Marquez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Marquez has Gottfried pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Marquez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gottfried tumbling to the mat - Marquez dives into Gottfried's guard.
Marquez wants to control from the top but Gottfried keeps moving.

Marquez stands up and waves to Gottfried to follow him.

Marquez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Marquez passes the guard and advances to mount!
Marquez trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Gottfried tries to hold on but Marquez pushes him away.
Marquez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gottfried is looking to escape.

Marquez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gottfried to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gottfried shrugs it off.

Marquez prevents Gottfried from getting the reversal.
Marquez wants to control but Gottfried has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
Gottfried is looking to control Marquez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gottfried avoid being mounted?

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gottfried can do anything to dispel that myth.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Marquez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Marquez.

Marquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gottfried fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Marquez avoids it really well and circles away.
Marquez half committed to a counter leg kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gottfried changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Marquez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jacques Marquez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Marquez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
