Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dimitri Emelianenko (ranked 5467 p4p, 479 weight class) and Connor MacLeod (ranked 8142 p4p, 549 weight class). Dimitri Emelianenko has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dimitri Emelianenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Connor MacLeod!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MacLeod shoots in for a takedown but Emelianenko shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
MacLeod tries to clinch up.
Emelianenko gets cracked with a nice right hand there by MacLeod.
MacLeod lands with a good body shot.

Emelianenko closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
MacLeod seems a little lost for a moment, as Emelianenko dominates the positioning.
Emelianenko has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Emelianenko is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt MacLeod will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
MacLeod is looking to regain half guard here but Emelianenko keeps moving and retains side control.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
You can see the frustration on MacLeod's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Emelianenko counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Emelianenko could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

MacLeod is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Emelianenko defends well.
Emelianenko is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Emelianenko perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
MacLeod is looking to control Emelianenko's arms but Emelianenko gets an underhook and turns him. Now MacLeod has his back to the cage.
MacLeod is trying to drag Emelianenko to the mat but Emelianenko just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

MacLeod has clasped his hands together around Emelianenko's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
MacLeod sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Emelianenko is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

MacLeod is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Emelianenko defends it well.

Connor MacLeod showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


A bone on bone clash there as Emelianenko blocks the leg kick.
Emelianenko is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from MacLeod.
MacLeod fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Emelianenko is out of range.
Emelianenko stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Emelianenko wants it to stay on the feet.
No luck for MacLeod with that takedown attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
MacLeod can't do much from the bottom here.
MacLeod might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Emelianenko haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
MacLeod is looking to reverse the position.
Emelianenko is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down MacLeod's shoulder. That is not cool.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
MacLeod connects with a body shot.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

and Emelianenko decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in MacLeod's guard.

MacLeod is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Emelianenko takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
MacLeod strikes from the bottom but Emelianenko uses the opportunity to move to side control.
MacLeod tries to buck Emelianenko off but Emelianenko is having none of it.
Emelianenko happy to just control the position for now.
Emelianenko's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
