PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Porky Nobriega (ranked 8244 p4p, 623 weight class) and King Ring (ranked 6661 p4p, 576 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that King Ring was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Porky Nobriega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, King Ring!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nobriega tries to clinch there but Ring circles away.
Nobriega shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ring as he avoids it easily.
Nobriega throws a one two combo.
Nobriega has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Temp Spar Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Ring connects with a right hand. Nobriega shakes it off.
Ring moves into range and connects with a jab.
Ring ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nobriega moves away.
Ring wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Nobriega closes the distance and lands a one-two.


It looks like King Ring has been cut.

Nobriega looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Ring!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nobriega moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Nobriega's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Nobriega works to advance to full mount. Ring defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nobriega seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ring for as long as he can get away with.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Nobriega continues to stall.
Nobriega has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Ring keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Nobriega content just to control the position here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Porky Nobriega dominated that round.
The cut man is working on King Ring's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A right-left combo lands from Nobriega.
Ring defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Nobriega.
Nobriega takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Nobriega throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nobriega shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Porky Nobriega is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ring has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Nobriega fails with a takedown attempt.

Ring scores with the left hand. Nobriega knows he should have avoided that one.

Ring lands with a straight right. Nobriega didn't see that one coming.
Ring bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Nobriega takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Ring ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Ring swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ring clobbers Nobriega with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Ring avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
King Ring is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ring scores with a sloppy right hand. Nobriega should have avoided that one.
Nobriega shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ring as he jumps to the side.
It seemed like Ring was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Ring cracks Nobriega with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Nobriega on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Nobriega looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ring works the jab nicely.
Ring tests Nobriega's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Nobriega misses with a takedown attempt - Ring sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nobriega takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Ring lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Ring has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Ring lands a jab to the nose.
Ring comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Nobriega closes the distance and pushes Ring back into the cage.
Nobriega tries to work over Ring's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Ring lands with a short shot to the head.
Nobriega trying to control the position but instead, Ring has worked for underhooks and has pushed Nobriega into the cage.
Ring managing to block the knees to the body from Nobriega.

Nobriega manages to break the clinch.
Ring cracks Nobriega with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Nobriega closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ring circles away.
King Ring seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Ring uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Nobriega has time to react.

Ring lands a really nice looking cross but Nobriega seems unphased.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ring lands a slapping body shot.
Ring moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Nobriega takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Ring is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Nobriega throws a head kick but Ring moves out of range.
Nobriega gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Ring stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Nobriega walks into a straight right hand from Ring.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King Ring showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Nobriega tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ring swivels and escapes.
Jab, jab by Ring - just one landing.
Nice straight punches there by Ring. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Ring.
Nobriega keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Nobriega throws a body punch but Ring moves out of range.

Nobriega misses with a takedown attempt
and Nobriega takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
King Ring seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ring lands a jab.
Ring lands with an uppercut that bounces Nobriega off the cage and back into range.

Nobriega throws a head kick that misses
and Ring counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Nobriega tries to bum rush Ring with a series of wild strikes but Ring uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ring swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Nobriega.
Ring connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Nobriega momentarily.
Nobriega on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Nobriega takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Ring's corner calls for a 1-2. Ring obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
A jab from Ring finds it's way through Nobriega's defenses.

A nice combination there by Nobriega.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Nobriega takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Ring might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Nobriega clinches up against the cage.
Nobriega pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Nobriega is trying to maintain a safe position but Ring gets an underhook and turns Nobriega into the cage.

Ring breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nobriega wants to clinch.
Nobriega ducks right into an uppercut from Ring.
Ring has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ring scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Horrible takedown attempt by Nobriega or perhaps it was just good defense by Ring, which made it look bad.
Ring connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Nobriega's hands.
Ring lunges at Nobriega with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Nobriega's hand.
Nobriega takes one on the button.
Nobriega throws a series of punches but Ring avoids them all with ease.
Ring bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Nobriega shoots for a double leg takedown but Ring sprawls well. He's pushed Nobriega's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ring cracks Nobriega with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Ring counters with a nice uppercut.
Ring thuds a left hand into Nobriega's body.

And that's the end of the fight!
King Ring comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ring has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
