Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dennis Baker (ranked 7822 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeffery Wood (ranked 4860 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dennis Baker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeffery Wood!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baker gets caught flat footed, as Wood shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Wood thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Baker wants to stand but Wood is controlling the position.
Baker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Wood drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Baker dives on top into guard.

Baker wants to control from the top but Wood keeps moving.
Wood looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Wood is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wood is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Baker doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wood.

Wood seems to be working for a kimura but Baker defends the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Baker has one foot on Wood's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Wood closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Baker to the mat! Baker manages to get full guard.
Baker can't keep his opponent in guard - Wood advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Wood looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Wood is trying to work for a kimura but Baker is defending well.
Baker wants to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Wood is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Baker is just riding it out for now. Wood eventually gives up the hold.
Baker wants to get back to full guard.

Wood is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Baker tries to kick Wood off but Wood keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Wood is trying for a kimura here. Baker looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Wood wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jeffery Wood!
