The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
RestInPiece lands a high kick!

It looks like Nuno Pontes has been cut.
Pontes throws a right and a left that RestInPiece avoids nicely.
RestInPiece slips under a jab from Pontes.
Pontes throws a poor cross that misses
and RestInPiece counters with a leg kick.
Pontes pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Pontes misses with a left hand
and RestInPiece counters with a nice uppercut.

RestInPiece went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Pontes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Pontes. RestInPiece does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pontes just misses with a punch to the body.
Pontes throws an off balance right hand
and RestInPiece counters with a good low kick that Pontes was not able to check.
RestInPiece tries to move into range but Pontes moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pontes misses with a body punch.
RestInPiece is pushing Pontes up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
A right handed body shot lands from RestInPiece.
Pontes is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
A nice right hand lands inside from RestInPiece.
RestInPiece lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Pontes struggles to land a body shot inside as RestInPiece controls his hands.

I was talking to RestInPiece's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
RestInPiece stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Pontes tries to break free but RestInPiece pushes him back against the cage.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Pontes has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from RestInPiece! Pontes is out on his feet! RestInPiece rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Pontes is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Pontes is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.
