PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tristan Roach (ranked 6952 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sul Duk Hjung (ranked 5266 p4p, 0 weight class). Hjung is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Korean National Anthem. Sul Duk Hjung told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tristan Roach!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sul Duk Hjung!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hjung scores with a takedown into Roach's guard.
Roach tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Roach trying to control the position.
Hjung is looking to stand up but Roach won't let him.
Roach wants to get back to his feet but Hjung is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hjung engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Hjung slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hjung slows the pace down.
The ground and pound from Hjung seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hjung is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hjung in side control, throwing shots but Roach defends.
Hjung is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Roach's shoulder. That is not cool.
Hjung wants to control but Roach is keeping him busy.
Hjung tries to stand but Roach is controlling his head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee asks Hjung politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hjung prefers to stall for the moment though.
Roach tries to bench press Hjung off him but Hjung keeps the position.
Hjung tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Hjung shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Roach manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Hjung trying to control the position from guard on top but Roach is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hjung wanted to stand there but Roach had control of the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hjung seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Let's hope that Hjung has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Hjung being controlled here momentarily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hjung lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Hjung closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Hjung lands in his opponent's guard.
Hjung looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sul Duk Hjung dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Hjung fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Roach to the ground. Hjung is now in Roach's guard.

Roach wants to sweep here but Hjung controlling him for the moment.
Sul Duk Hjung has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hjung sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Roach's guard.
Hjung has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Roach is staying active underneath Hjung, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hjung passes the guard and advances to mount!
Roach is in a horrible position here. Hjung smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Hjung is looking to stand but Roach has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
Roach trying desperately to get to his feet.
Hjung controlling the position easily from mount.
Roach tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hjung looking to control and managing it successfully.
Roach wants to hold on but Hjung pushes him away.
Hjung prevents Roach from getting the reversal.
Roach is bucking up trying to escape but Hjung cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Hjung content just to control the position here.

Hjung working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Roach turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Hjung off and cradles Roach's limp body as Hjung celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Sul Duk Hjung!
