Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Baker Smith (ranked 3989 p4p, 405 weight class) and Marcus Ribeiro (ranked 3265 p4p, 349 weight class). Baker Smith has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Bart Greer and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribeiro shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Smith changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ribeiro tries to avoid it but Smith manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ribeiro to the ground. Ribeiro escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Smith looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ribeiro avoids the head kick by Smith.
Ribeiro swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Smith throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Ribeiro.
Ribeiro dives in and scores a takedown into Smith's guard.
Ribeiro is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Let's hope that Ribeiro has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Smith goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Ribeiro rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Smith's guard! Nice work there by Ribeiro!
Ribeiro drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ribeiro jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Ribeiro wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
Ribeiro slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Ribeiro seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Ribeiro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
