PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Simon Vale (ranked 979 p4p, 129 weight class) and Maki Pulu (ranked 1385 p4p, 177 weight class). Vale comes into the arena with Motorhead-Iron Fist blaring out of the sound system. Pulu comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Alive kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 20 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maki Pulu!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pulu misses with an uppercut.
Vale is looking to counter punch.
Vale gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Vale looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Vale cracks Pulu with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Pulu misses with a looping left.
A telegraphed right hand from Pulu misses the target.
Pulu throws a looping overhand right but Vale ducks down to avoid it.
A little feinted left hand from Vale on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Vale lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Vale throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Vale swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Pulu.
Pulu misses with a straight right.
Pulu throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Pulu keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Vale.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pulu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Vale defending well as Pulu loads up on a big left hand.
Vale throws a right and a left that Pulu avoids nicely.
Vale lands a right hook to the body.

Pulu throws a lazy head kick
and Vale counters with a straight right hand.
Pulu thumps Vale with a low kick.
Pulu ducks under a wild hook from Vale.
Pulu throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vale looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Pulu throws a wild body kick that Vale sees coming a mile off.
Pulu gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Vale connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Maki Pulu has been cut.
Vale throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
It seemed like Pulu was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Vale throws the left hand but Pulu avoids the punch easily.
It looks like Vale has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Vale lands a slapping body shot.
Pulu looks to land a right hand but Vale moved out of range.
Vale avoids the body shot from Pulu.
Pulu misses with an uppercut.
Vale throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Pulu sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Pulu just misses with a punch to the body.
Vale tries to move into range but Pulu moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Vale lands a nice leg kick that just misses Pulu's sensitive parts.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Pulu forces Vale back against the cage and clinches.
Vale is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Pulu misses with the head strike.
Pulu lands a body shot.
A head punch on the inside from Vale fails to land.
Pulu doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Pulu goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A left hand lands to the body for Pulu.
Vale tries to circle away but Pulu has him pinned against the cage.
Pulu has a couple of punches blocked by Vale.
Pulu misses with the head strike.
Pulu goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Vale blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Vale pushes Pulu back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Pulu struggles to land a body shot inside as Vale controls his hands.
Pulu misses with the head strike.
Vale swings wildly with an uppercut but Pulu uses good head movement to avoid it.
Vale is trying to force a seperation but Pulu has the dominant position.
Pulu struggles to land a body shot inside as Vale controls his hands.
Vale swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Vale blocks an uppercut.
Pulu wants a takedown but no success here.
Vale scores with a shoulder strike.

Vale breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Vale scores with a hook to the body. Pulu takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Vale goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Vale lands a nice looking body shot.
Pulu throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Simon Vale is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Vale bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Vale throws a nice looking combination but Pulu bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pulu ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vale moves away.
Vale is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.

Vale misses with a straight right.
Vale defending well as Pulu loads up on a big left hand.
Vale throwing a counter right hand but Pulu manages to avoid it.
Pulu walks into a stiff left hand from Vale.
Vale cracks Pulu with an open hand slap.
Vale scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Pulu throws a body kick that misses

and Vale counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Pulu is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Vale scores with a couple of nice shots.
Pulu is trying to get back to full guard.
Vale working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Pulu looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vale looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pulu looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simon Vale dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Maki Pulu's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Pulu has a takedown stuffed.
Pulu takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Vale is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pulu can do to turn this around?

Pulu gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Pulu pushes Vale back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

Pulu gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Pulu trying to control the position from guard on top but Vale is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vale is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Pulu is pushing down on Vale's leg trying to pass to half guard. Vale is fighting to maintain full guard but Pulu has managed to sneak the leg through.

Vale is trying to get back to full guard.
Pulu is looking to advance position but Vale won't allow it.
Pulu is looking to take a break and control but Vale is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Pulu is trying to work for a kimura but Vale is defending well.
Vale is looking to control Pulu's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vale avoid being mounted?
Vale is staying active underneath Pulu, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Vale here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pulu is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Vale is just riding it out for now. Pulu eventually gives up the hold.
Vale tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Pulu manages to move to mount!

Pulu wants to control the pace but Vale is squirming around nicely.

Vale keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Pulu content just to control the position here.
Vale tries to reverse the position but Pulu maintains control.
Pulu controlling the pace for now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Vale is in all sorts of trouble here.
Pulu trying to control but he's not successful this time.
You get the feeling that Vale really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Pulu is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Vale is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Vale flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Pulu anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Vale and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Pulu slips an arm under Vale chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Pulu has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Pulu is squeezing on Vale like an anaconda would it's prey. Vale fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Maki Pulu!
