PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tyrone Jenkins (ranked 4005 p4p, 299 weight class) and Mary Jean Navarrete (ranked 5968 p4p, 372 weight class). Jenkins kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is For whom the bell tolls. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Navarrete misses with a two punch combination.
Jenkins looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Navarrete shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Navarrete really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jenkins. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jenkins wants to improve his position but Navarrete is controlling well.

Navarrete is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Jenkins is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Navarrete scores with a couple of nice shots.

Navarrete is taking a breather. Jenkins says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
It looks like Navarrete might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Navarrete dives in for a single leg takedown but Jenkins sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Jenkins tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Navarrete's elbow.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Navarrete wants to take the fight to the mat but Jenkins manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Navarrete jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jenkins walks away with a smile on his face. Navarrete gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Navarrete turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Navarrete manages to end up in side control.
Navarrete wants to control but Jenkins is keeping him busy.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jenkins is looking to reverse the position.

Navarrete stands up and beckons Jenkins to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Navarrete feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Navarrete shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jenkins pinned against the cage. Jenkins gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Navarrete shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jenkins sprawls well. Jenkins wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Navarrete gets slowly back to his feet.

Navarrete closes the distance and clinches up with Jenkins, looking for a takedown. Navarrete pushes Jenkins against the cage but Jenkins circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Navarrete is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Navarrete sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jenkins's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Navarrete can do anything to dispel that myth.

Well Navarrete has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
