The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kuuppa pushes Odom up against the cage in a clinch.
Kuuppa tries to break the clinch but Odom is controlling the position.

Kuuppa manages to break the clinch.

Kuuppa closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kuuppa lands in his opponent's guard.

Odom pushes Kuuppa off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Kuuppa lands a head shot.
Kalja Kuuppa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kuuppa moves into range and clinches up with Odom.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Odom pulls Kuuppa into guard.
Odom is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kuuppa passes Odom's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Odom regains full guard. Nicely done.
Kuuppa distracts Odom with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Kuuppa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Odom. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Kuuppa's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

It looks like Wilton Odom has been cut.
Kuuppa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kuuppa gets to his feet and stands over Odom, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Odom felt that one! Kuuppa unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Odom from any more punishment!
