PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Kirk (ranked 23603 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kris Capers (ranked 5181 p4p, 361 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kris Capers was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tommy Kirk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kris Capers!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kirk dives in and scores a takedown into Capers's guard.

Capers pushes Kirk off and gets back to his feet.

Capers shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Capers was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Capers is trying to get an arm triangle but Kirk is defending well.
Capers in side control, throwing shots but Kirk defends.
You can see the frustration on Kirk's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Kirk sneaks back into half guard.
Kirk is looking to control Capers's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kirk avoid being mounted?

Capers lands with a punch from half guard.
Kirk really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Capers is looking to take a break and control but Kirk is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Capers stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kirk swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Capers is still trying to improve position.
Kirk pulls Capers in to control the position.
Kirk wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Capers is now in half guard.
Kirk slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Capers wants to control from the top but Kirk keeps moving.
Capers looking to sit in guard and control but Kirk gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Kirk distracts Capers with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Capers is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kirk stays in close to Capers's body and controls the position.

Capers kicks Kirk off and gets to his feet.
Capers tries to bum rush Kirk with a series of wild strikes but Kirk uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Capers moves in looking to clinch but Kirk pushes him off.
Kirk slips a straight right by Capers.
Kirk dives in for a single leg takedown but Capers sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Capers blocks a head kick by Kirk.
Capers tries to counter by closing the distance.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kirk.

Capers throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kirk checks a leg kick.
Capers throws a series of punches but Kirk moves out of range.
Capers misses with a double jab
and Kirk counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Capers is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kirk's half guard.
Kirk is not content to let Capers control the position.
Capers throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Kirk's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Capers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Capers is stalling in the full guard.
Capers would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Kirk stands up over Capers, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kirk is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Capers is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Capers has escaped and now he's on top!

Capers is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Kirk has a closed guard, preventing Capers from standing up.
Kirk will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Capers lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Capers postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Kirk had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Capers defends it easily.
Kirk working a defensive guard but Capers passes into half guard.
Kirk knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Capers on the ground.
Capers seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kirk does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kirk wants to control but Capers is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Capers has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kirk is not content to let Capers control the position.

Kris Capers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Capers tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kirk manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kirk fails with a takedown attempt.
Capers tries a head kick but it misses.
Kirk shoots in for a takedown but Capers shows good takedown defense.

Capers darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Capers wants to free his trapped foot but Kirk is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kirk has his hands clasped together around Capers's back. He's all about the action.

Capers working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kirk looking to hit a scissor sweep but Capers is one step ahead there.
Capers controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Capers trying to control the position from guard on top but Kirk is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Kirk controls Capers momentarily but Capers frees himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Capers tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Kirk trying to hold on to Capers's head to control him but Capers postures up.

Capers is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Capers throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Capers trying to mount his opponent but Kirk defends it.
Kirk wants to get back to full guard but Capers has mounted him!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Capers lands a heavy elbow.
Tommy Kirk has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kris Capers is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kris Capers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Capers has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
