PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Seto Kaiba (ranked 2072 p4p, 245 weight class) and Brian Ortega (ranked 2717 p4p, 314 weight class). Seto Kaiba is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Seto Kaiba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brian Ortega!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by Kaiba or perhaps it was just good defense by Ortega, which made it look bad.
Ortega stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ortega wants it to stay on the feet.
Ortega throws a right and a left that Kaiba avoids nicely.
Kaiba shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ortega as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Seto Kaiba. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kaiba moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Kaiba moves into the clinch.
Kaiba slows down the pace here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kaiba gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Ortega controls Kaiba momentarily but Kaiba frees himself.
Kaiba won't allow Ortega to sweep him here.
Kaiba really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Ortega has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kaiba can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ortega is trying to keep Kaiba in close.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kaiba slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Ortega is not content to let Kaiba control the position.

Ortega can't do much from the bottom here.
Ortega is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kaiba's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Kaiba will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ortega throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kaiba escapes and throws Ortega's legs to the side, diving into side control!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ortega circles away from the clinch attempt.
A little jabbing left from Ortega on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Kaiba dives in and grabs Ortega's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ortega pushes down on Kaiba's head and hops out.
Kaiba shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ortega sprawls well. Ortega wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Kaiba gets slowly back to his feet.
Kaiba rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ortega moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ortega lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Kaiba throws a nice looking combination but Ortega bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Kaiba tries to clinch up but Ortega circles away and keeps his distance.

and Ortega counters with a nice uppercut.

Ortega avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kaiba gets a takedown into half guard.
Kaiba wants to pass the guard but Ortega is defending well.
Ortega is trying to control but can't.

Kaiba seems to be looking for submissions.
Kaiba prevents Ortega from improving his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kaiba is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ortega can do to turn this around?

Kaiba is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kaiba seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Kaiba tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ortega knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Kaiba seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ortega does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kaiba jumps guard but Ortega stands there with Kaiba around his waist. Kaiba gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Ortega escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ortega thows a left - swing and a miss!
Kaiba tries to clinch up but Ortega circles away and keeps his distance.
Ortega only half commits to the counter leg kick.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ortega enables Kaiba to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ortega manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ortega has his foot on Kaiba's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kaiba works his way back into a safe position though.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Kaiba tries to close the distance and clinch but Ortega swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ortega lands with a nice body punch.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ortega! But no joy.
Seto Kaiba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kaiba looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ortega is fending him off so far but Kaiba persists. Nope, Ortega circles away and we're back to standing.

Kaiba tries to pull guard but Ortega won't allow it.
Kaiba drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ortega throws a series of strikes that have Kaiba backpedaling.
Kaiba is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Brian Ortega seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kaiba shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ortega pinned against the cage. Ortega gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kaiba drives through with a takedown into Ortega's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Kaiba got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ortega has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kaiba has managed to get both his arms back between Ortega's legs - danger averted.

Seto Kaiba overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kaiba is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ortega is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Kaiba looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ortega is trying to get back to full guard.
Kaiba wants to control but Ortega is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kaiba takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brian Ortega comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kaiba has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Seto Kaiba really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Rogue Clothing logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
