Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steven Hughes (ranked 5302 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leonard Rondo (ranked 5532 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rondo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Rondo moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Hughes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

It looks like Steven Hughes has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rondo lands a nice short elbow.
Rondo is nestled in close to Hughes, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hughes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rondo's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rondo's back!
Hughes is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Rondo defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rondo is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Hughes gets his way!
Hughes doesn't have the hooks in and Rondo manages to turn into his guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hughes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rondo controls the pace.

Rondo lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Hughes wants to sweep here but Rondo controlling him for the moment.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rondo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rondo wants to stand up but Hughes is controlling him.
Hughes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Hughes is looking to work some ground and pound but Rondo has wrist control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round but I would say that Steven Hughes will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Rondo slaps away a takedown attempt from Hughes, before circling back to the center of the mat.
And Rondo tries to counter it with a takedown but Hughes pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Hughes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rondo defends it nicely.
Hughes plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hughes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rondo tries to avoid it but Hughes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rondo to the ground. Rondo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hughes tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rondo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hughes somewhat.

Rondo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hughes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
