Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eldar Smith (ranked 3199 p4p, 350 weight class) and Mario Eikmeyer (ranked 2242 p4p, 263 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eldar Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 49 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mario Eikmeyer!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eikmeyer fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Smith avoids it really well and circles away.
Mario Eikmeyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eikmeyer has his takedown stuffed
and Smith counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Eikmeyer shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Eldar Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mario Eikmeyer.

Eikmeyer shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Smith manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Smith will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Smith wants to stand but Eikmeyer is controlling the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith wants to get back to his feet but Eikmeyer is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Eikmeyer drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!


Smith decides to stand back up. Smith steps back and let's Eikmeyer get back to his feet.
Eikmeyer shoots in but no luck this time.
Smith is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Eikmeyer.
Eikmeyer fails with the takedown
enabling Smith to counter with a crisp jab.

Smith clinches up against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Eikmeyer goes for a takedown in the clinch but Smith prevents it.
Smith effectively controlling the action here.

Eikmeyer is trying to trip Smith. He has hold of a leg but Smith is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Eikmeyer persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Smith uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Smith clinches up against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Smith takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Nice takedown defense from Smith. No joy for Eikmeyer on that attempt.
Eikmeyer throws out a powerful jab.

Smith closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Eikmeyer's guard.

Eikmeyer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.

Eikmeyer is working an open guard so Smith takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Eikmeyer back to the cage. Smith follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Eikmeyer closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Smith's guard.

Smith pushes Eikmeyer off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

and Smith counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Eikmeyer is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Smith gets a clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Eikmeyer is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Smith prevents a takedown attempt there.

Smith manages to break the clinch.
Eikmeyer shoots in looking for a takedown but Smith manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Eikmeyer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Smith closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Smith breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Smith drives through and clinches with Eikmeyer against the cage.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Eikmeyer shoots and misses
and Smith counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Eikmeyer takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eikmeyer shoots and misses
and Smith counters with a right, left combo that wobbles Eikmeyer badly! Smith follows up with a massive right hook, straight to the bridge of the nose that knocks Eikmeyer out cold! Oh wow, what a finish! Very reminiscent of Koscheck vs Yoshida as Smith finished him against the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Eldar Smith!
Our winner, Eldar Smith, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
