PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tuccio Turturro (ranked 684 p4p, 89 weight class) and Jao Rua (ranked 2088 p4p, 234 weight class). Turturro comes into the arena with 2 Pac - All Eyez On Me blaring out of the sound system. Rua comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Tarantula kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Jao Rua has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tuccio Turturro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jao Rua!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Shimada and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turturro with a poor takedown
and Rua counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Turturro darts in and clinches Rua up against the cage.
Turturro looking for a takedown.

Rua is fighting off a takedown attempt but Turturro is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rua to the mat. Rua regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Rua uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Turturro or perhaps it was just good defense by Rua, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tuccio Turturro. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rua decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Turturro is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rua's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rua's back!

Rua is having to fend off submission attempts from Turturro, who is looking to sink in the choke. Turturro doesn't have the hooks in though and Rua manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

Rua has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Turturro is proving hard to escape from.

Turturro has his foot on Rua's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Rua works his way back into a safe position though.

Turturro had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rua defends it easily.
Rua has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Turturro is proving hard to escape from.

Rua looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Turturro wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
A lull in the action here as Rua stalls from top position.
Turturro is looking to regain half guard here but Rua keeps moving and retains side control.

Turturro can't do much from the bottom here.
Turturro tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rua wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rua get's back to his feet.

Rua throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Turturro tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Rua is in Turturro's guard.
Rua would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Turturro lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Turturro passes Rua's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Turturro is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Turturro wants to take a breather but Rua is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jao Rua dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Turturro looks for a takedown but Rua sprawls well.
A little jabbing left from Rua on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Rua throws a big shot that misses.
Turturro tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rua sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Turturro somewhat.
Rua has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rua uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Turturro has time to react.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Turturro gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Rua.

Rua shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rua was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Turturro is trying to control Rua's posture but Rua avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Turturro is looking to reverse the position.

Turturro is working hard here to advance position.
Turturro tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Rua presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Turturro can't escape the position.
Rua tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Turturro tries to hold on but Rua postures up.
Rua prevents Turturro from getting the reversal.
Rua wants to stand but Turturro is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

Rua is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Turturro tries to clinch up.
Rua swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Rua shoots in and bounces Turturro off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Turturro wants to control the position but Rua says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Turturro is looking for a sweep. Rua is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Turturro seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Rua must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Turturro doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Rua wants to get up but he can't break Turturro's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Turturro thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Jao Rua showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Turturro counters by moving into the clinch.
Turturro is trying to pull guard but Rua has him pressed against the cage.

Turturro is trying to drag Rua to the mat but Rua just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

It seemed like Rua was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Turturro needs to keep his hands up - Rua had a free shot at his head there.
Turturro looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Rua! But no joy.

Rua throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Turturro was covering up waiting for the punch and Rua finishes the takedown easily into guard.

and Rua counters with a stiff right hand.
Tuccio Turturro is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Turturro shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rua as he jumps to the side.
Rua throws out a counter right but Turturro avoids it with no problem.

Turturro closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Turturro is working for takedown but Rua is calmly controlling the position for now.
Turturro drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jao Rua really dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

and Rua counters with a crisp right hand that drops Turturro! Rua lets Turturro back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Oh Turturro is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Turturro leaves his chin hanging out and Rua seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Turturro crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 4, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jao Rua!
Our winner, Jao Rua, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
