PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Brent (ranked 162 p4p, 24 weight class) and Captain Gonza (ranked 266 p4p, 39 weight class). Gonza has chosen Mononoke Hime as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Captain Gonza was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brent avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Gonza scores with a jab to the body.
Brent has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Gangsterdamage in the buildup to the fight.
Gonza tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

It looks like David Brent has been cut.
Brent throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gonza's coach down at Razor Sharp Training Systems was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Gonza's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Brent avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gonza walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Gonza gets through Brent's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Gonza lands a right hand that snaps the head of Brent backwards.
Brent blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Brent breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Gonza lands a big right hand that sends Brent crashing to the mat! Gonza stays standing though and waves Brent back to his feet!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gonza moves in looking to clinch but Brent pushes him off.

Gonza throws a nice inside leg kick.

Gonza feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Brent sprawling to the canvas! Brent rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Gonza finish him?!
Oh Brent is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gonza throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Brent on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Gonza darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Brent lands with a thumping leg kick.
Brent swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Gonza.

Brent swats away the attempt to clinch by Gonza.
Gonza looks to land a left hand but Brent moved out of range nicely.
Brent fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Gonza looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Gonza lands a nice leg kick that just misses Brent's sensitive parts.
Gonza throws a shot from downtown. Brent moves away and avoids it.
The crowd cheers as Gonza lands an impressive looking overhand right. Brent doesn't seem phased though.

Captain Gonza seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brent throws a lazy right hand but Gonza sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Gonza changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Gonza bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Brent's head.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Brent shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

David Brent's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Brent takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Brent throws a low kick but it's checked well by Gonza.

Gonza cracks Brent with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Gonza has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Brent to stand back up!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Brent cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Jeez, David Brent's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Gonza fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Brent takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Gonza throws a solid leg kick but Brent takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Gonza.
Brent takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Gonza takes a swing at Brent's ribcage but misses.
Brent was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Gonza lands an overhand right.
Gonza throws a lazy right hand but Brent sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
It looked like Brent was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Gonza thuds a left hand into Brent's body.
Brent ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gonza moves away.
Brent sets himself, and Gonza steps forward looking for the clinch! Brent avoids it this time.

and Brent cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Captain Gonza spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
