PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Connor MacLeod (ranked 1067 p4p, 161 weight class) and Juan Marfaker (ranked 1201 p4p, 180 weight class). Connor MacLeod is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Connor MacLeod!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Marfaker!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marfaker throws a shot to the body.
MacLeod has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Marfaker misses with a body shot
and MacLeod counters with a one-two to the body.
MacLeod slips under a jab from Marfaker.

MacLeod looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Marfaker is trying is best to control the position here.
MacLeod throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
MacLeod thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Marfaker's head.

Marfaker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
MacLeod lands a couple of elbows.
MacLeod is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
MacLeod wants to control from the top but Marfaker keeps moving.
MacLeod sitting in guard, not really doing much.
MacLeod wants to pass the guard but Marfaker is keeping the position.
MacLeod looking to sit in guard and control but Marfaker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


MacLeod has an active guard here but Marfaker has managed to pass into half guard.

Let's hope that Marfaker has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

MacLeod is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Marfaker is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
MacLeod throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

MacLeod escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Marfaker gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
MacLeod pulls Marfaker in close to prevent any damage.
MacLeod might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

MacLeod has his foot on Marfaker's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Marfaker works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


A looping hook to the body misses from Marfaker. MacLeod does a little dance to reset his feet.
Marfaker bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

MacLeod shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Marfaker as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Connor MacLeod. That's going to take a lot out of him.
MacLeod tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Marfaker defends well and MacLeod ends up having to push Marfaker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

MacLeod misses with a takedown attempt - Marfaker sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters circling - Marfaker throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
MacLeod drops down looking for a counter takedown but Marfaker sprawls and moves away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
MacLeod wants to control from the top but Marfaker keeps moving.

Marfaker bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in MacLeod's guard.

Marfaker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. MacLeod swivels though and keeps the full guard.

MacLeod looking for subs off his back but Marfaker has passed one foot through into half guard.
MacLeod is trying to control but can't.
Marfaker seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but MacLeod does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

MacLeod has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marfaker is working away from the top position though.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
MacLeod dives in and grabs Marfaker's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marfaker pushes down on MacLeod's head and hops out.
Marfaker takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Marfaker jabs MacLeod to the body, keeping him at a distance.
MacLeod fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

MacLeod closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juan Marfaker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Marfaker throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Marfaker throws a body shot but no joy.

MacLeod scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
MacLeod tries to score with some ground and pound. Marfaker controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

MacLeod looks up at the clock and then as Marfaker takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, MacLeod smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!


It looks like Juan Marfaker has been cut.

MacLeod postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Marfaker gets back to half guard.

Marfaker is not content to let MacLeod control the position.
MacLeod is thwarting Marfaker's attempts to control the position.
MacLeod is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
MacLeod trying to control but Marfaker is working from the bottom.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells MacLeod's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
MacLeod has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Marfaker looking to hit a scissor sweep but MacLeod is one step ahead there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
MacLeod throws a big right hand that misses.
MacLeod being controlled here momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
MacLeod stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marfaker swivels though and keeps the full guard.

MacLeod drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and MacLeod jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

MacLeod shoots in for a takedown but Marfaker shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Marfaker digs a good body shot into MacLeod's ribs.
Marfaker throws a hook but MacLeod blocks it.
Juan Marfaker is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Marfaker, as that shot connected.
Marfaker is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Marfaker - that will leave a mark!
Marfaker wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
MacLeod shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Marfaker sprawls well. Marfaker wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. MacLeod gets slowly back to his feet.
A nice side step and Marfaker releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Marfaker tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but MacLeod was well out of range. Poor timing from Marfaker.
MacLeod fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Connor MacLeod. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marfaker throws a head kick but MacLeod moves out of range.
A lazy left from Marfaker finds it's target.
MacLeod will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Marfaker looks to land a right hand but MacLeod moved out of range.

Marfaker throws a shot to the body.
Marfaker connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Marfaker keeps MacLeod at a distance using the push kick.
MacLeod is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Marfaker.
Marfaker scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
MacLeod misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
No luck with that takedown attempt from MacLeod.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
MacLeod on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Marfaker. Marfaker obviously looking to wear him down.

and MacLeod counters with a lovely straight right hand!
MacLeod ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Marfaker pulls out of a head kick attempt.
MacLeod uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Marfaker.
MacLeod has a takedown stuffed.

And that's the end of the fight!
Juan Marfaker comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Marfaker has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
