PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between King Ring (ranked 6028 p4p, 533 weight class) and Sake Chu (ranked 3574 p4p, 401 weight class). Chu is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Daughtry - Renegade. Sake Chu told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, King Ring!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sake Chu!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, David Hoff and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chu steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Ring.
We've been informed that Chu has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Chu fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Ring misses with a body shot.
A countering left hand to the body from Chu misses.
Ring avoids a punch combination nicely.
Chu works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Chu misses with an uppercut.
Ring throws an overhand right that lands on Chu's shoulder, as Chu tries to avoid the shot.
Chu uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ring.
Chu connects with a body shot.
Chu jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Chu closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Chu creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chu has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Ring uses from the top position.

Ring tries to keep at a distance but Chu has taken the fight into the clinch.
Chu tries to pull guard but Ring holds him up against the cage and eventually Chu drops back down to his feet.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Chu holds on and takes a little breather.
Chu wants to sweep here but Ring controlling him for the moment.
Ring wants to get up but he can't break Chu's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

It looks like King Ring has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Chu stays in close to Ring's body and controls the position.
Chu advances to half guard.

Chu tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ring knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Chu is controlling the pace.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Chu seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ring takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chu moves into range and clinches up with Ring.

Chu makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Ring can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Chu controls the pace.
Sake Chu has got the better of the ground game so far.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Chu in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chu's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The adventures of Chu the control monster continue. Boring.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Sake Chu showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Chu looks to score with a jab to the body but Ring is just out of range.

Chu tries to pull guard but Ring won't allow it.

Chu's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Chu gets control of Ring's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chu will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Chu seems keen to control Ring's posture.
Chu throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Ring is fighting to break Chu's control of his arms but Chu is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Chu lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Chu slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Chu slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
King Ring has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
A lull in the action here as Chu stalls from top position.
Ring is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Chu takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Chu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Chu not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Chu slows the pace down in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chu scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Ring doesn't seem bothered though.

Chu clinches.
Chu lands a body shot.
Chu stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Chu lands a hook to the side of the head.
Chu lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Chu manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Chu is pulling down on Ring's head. It's preventing any offense from Ring, at least for the moment.

Sake Chu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Sake Chu rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
