PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Land Shark (ranked 23247 p4p, 548 weight class) and Conor OShea (ranked 22965 p4p, 555 weight class). Conor OShea will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Land Shark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor OShea!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Chad Campbell and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OShea throws a series of punches but Shark moves out of range.
Shark drops down looking for a counter takedown but OShea sprawls and moves away.
Shark misses with a takedown attempt
and OShea counters with a three punch combo that has Shark backing up. Shark nods at OShea to acknowledge the strikes.
A thudding body kick lands there by OShea!

OShea fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Shark, pushing him back against the ropes.
Shark has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by OShea after a bit of a struggle.
OShea is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
OShea lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Land Shark has been cut.

OShea pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
OShea connects with a good right hand that stumbles Shark. Shark circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
OShea has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Shark is landing a low percentage of strikes.
OShea throws a lazy head kick

and Shark counters with a takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
OShea prevents Shark from moving into mount.
Shark prevents OShea from escaping the position.

Shark tries for a kimura but OShea is defending well.
Shark wants to lay and pray for a moment but OShea keeps working.

Shark advances to full mount.
OShea is looking to improve his position but Shark isn't that keen on the idea.

Shark is working for a guillotine from mount but OShea frees his head quite easily.
Shark moves to his opponent's back but OShea bucks him off and ends up in guard. A bit of a disaster there for Shark.

Shark is trying to control the position but OShea postures up.
Shark might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
OShea's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Shark is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Shark avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
OShea postures up in Shark's guard and throws a big left but Shark blocks it.
OShea throws a big right hand that misses.
Shark lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've been hearing that Shark has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Shark won't allow OShea to sweep him here.
OShea can't keep his opponent in guard - Shark advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Shark prevents OShea from standing back up.
OShea misses with some strikes from the bottom.
OShea is not content to let Shark control the position.

OShea kicks Shark off and gets back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


OShea misses with a jab, cross combination.
Shark half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
No joy there for OShea, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
OShea tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Shark manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

OShea throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Shark.
Shark changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
OShea works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

A short uppercut from OShea.
Shark has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. OShea is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

OShea makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

OShea breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

OShea bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

OShea stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and OShea wants it to stay on the feet.

Shark takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
This has been an exciting period of action!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now OShea is on top in guard.

Shark postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! OShea is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shark, into his guard.

Conor OShea comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well OShea has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
