PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sasha Khadartsev (ranked 22881 p4p, 512 weight class) and Urho Mannerheim (ranked 2941 p4p, 302 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Urho Mannerheim!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khadartsev just misses with a punch to the body.
Mannerheim throws a right and a left that Khadartsev avoids nicely.
Nice cross by Khadartsev.
Urho Mannerheim seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Khadartsev misses with a lunging right hand
and Mannerheim counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Khadartsev lands with an overhand left.
Mannerheim chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Khadartsev misses with an uppercut.
Mannerheim throws a good cross that connects.
Khadartsev misses with an uppercut
and Mannerheim counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mannerheim rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Khadartsev moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Khadartsev attempts a counter takedown but Mannerheim avoids it well and moves away.
Khadartsev dodges the punch combination from Mannerheim.
Khadartsev misses with a looping left.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Khadartsev slips under a jab from Mannerheim.
Mannerheim pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Mannerheim misses the shot to the body.
Khadartsev drops his hands momentarily and Mannerheim takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mannerheim looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Khadartsev takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Khadartsev fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Mannerheim has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Mannerheim catches Khadartsev with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Khadartsev misses with a lunging right hand
enabling Mannerheim to counter with a crisp jab.
Mannerheim moves out of range as Khadartsev strikes.
Khadartsev throws a sloppy body shot
and Mannerheim counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Khadartsev misses with a looping left.
Mannerheim throws out a counter right but Khadartsev avoids it with no problem.
Khadartsev thows a left - swing and a miss!
Mannerheim swings for the body but Khadartsev moves out of range.
Khadartsev with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mannerheim to score with a decent uppercut.
We've been informed that Mannerheim has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Mannerheim connects with a jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Khadartsev dodges the punch combination from Mannerheim.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khadartsev misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Mannerheim counters with a series of strikes. Khadartsev will be more careful next time no doubt.
A head kick by Mannerheim misses

and Khadartsev counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Khadartsev.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Khadartsev accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Khadartsev sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mannerheim's guard.
Khadartsev wants to free his trapped foot but Mannerheim is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Khadartsev is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mannerheim defends it well.
Khadartsev landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Khadartsev thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Khadartsev wants to pass the guard but Mannerheim is defending well.
Khadartsev drops an elbow to the side of Mannerheim's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Khadartsev working over Mannerheim with some ground and pound. Mannerheim looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Khadartsev not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Khadartsev is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mannerheim doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Khadartsev.
Khadartsev thows a huge punch but Mannerheim dodges it nicely.
Khadartsev passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Mannerheim!
Mannerheim holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Khadartsev tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Khadartsev postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Mannerheim in real trouble here! The ref calls for Mannerheim to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sasha Khadartsev!
