TWGC 24 (205lbs, D3): Finals - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a light heavyweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Corwin Valentine (ranked 1330 p4p, 161 weight class) and Jao Rua (ranked 2021 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Valentine might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to I'm the Man. Rua has chosen Tarantula as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Jao Rua enters the cage!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 1 losses; Corwin Valentine! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 1 losses; Jao Rua!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.

Rua has Valentine up against the cage in a clinch.

Valentine jumps guard.
Rua stays in close to Valentine's body and controls the position.
Rua tries to free his leg and advance position but Valentine is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Valentine keeping moving, preventing Rua from controlling successfully.
Valentine wants to sweep here but Rua controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rua trying to control the action but Valentine is working from the bottom.

Rua is trying to get an arm triangle but Valentine is defending well.
Valentine sneaks back into half guard.
Rua trying to control from half guard but Valentine is working away.

Rua with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Rua wants to control but Valentine is keeping him busy.
Rua looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've been hearing good reports from Valentine's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Valentine is staying active underneath Rua, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Rua wants to pass to mount but Valentine is defending the position.
Valentine is refusing to be controlled, as Rua sits in half guard.

Valentine has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Rua's lack of action.

Rua is pressing down on Valentine's thigh, looking to free his foot. Valentine is holding on for now.

Rua is trying for a kimura here. Valentine looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Rua wins by kimura!
