PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Kivela (ranked 4061 p4p, 136 weight class) and Collin Whitley (ranked 6525 p4p, 89 weight class). Whitley has chosen i stand alone as his entrance music. Kivela has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Collin Whitley enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Daniel Kivela!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Collin Whitley!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitley scores with a shot to the body.
Whitley throws a head kick that misses.
Whitley misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Whitley misses with the combination.
Whitley thows a leg kick but Kivela checks it

so Kivela counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Whitley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Whitley is adopting a defensive guard.
Whitley looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kivela wants to control from the top but Whitley keeps moving.

Whitley working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kivela doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kivela manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Whitley looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Kivela is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kivela tries to free his leg and advance position but Whitley is retaining full guard.
Kivela trying to control but Whitley is working from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Whitley getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Whitley throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Kivela's head.
Whitley dives in and grabs Kivela's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kivela pushes down on Whitley's head and hops out.
Whitley misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Whitley wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Kivela is breathing heavily.
Kivela throws a looping overhand right but Whitley ducks down to avoid it.
A punch combination from Whitley misses.
Whitley tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kivela is able to avoid easily.
Kivela takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Whitley throws a right and a left that Kivela avoids nicely.
Kivela has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Temp Spar Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Kivela checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Nice jab there from Whitley.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kivela shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Whitley pinned against the cage. Whitley gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Whitley tries to clinch up.
Whitley fails to land the takedown.
Daniel Kivela has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Collin Whitley.
Whitley displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Whitley moves into the clinch.
Whitley throws a knee to the head but misses.

Whitley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Whitley digs a good hook to Kivela's body.
Kivela loses concentration momentarily and Whitley pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Kivela crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Whitley finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Collin Whitley!
Collin Whitley decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
