Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Darryl Hayes (ranked 23837 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Jack (ranked 5220 p4p, 0 weight class). James Jack will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Darryl Hayes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Jack!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jack has his takedown stuffed

and Hayes counters with a single leg into guard. Jack didn't expect that.
Hayes loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jack trying to keep a closed guard but Hayes is proving a slippery customer.
Hayes chips away with some ground and pound.
Jack looking for a sweep. Not yet Jack, not yet.
Jack not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jack is looking for a triangle but Hayes pushes his legs off easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hayes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Jack pulls Hayes in close to his closed guard and prevents Hayes from doing any damage or advancing position.

Hayes seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hayes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hayes throws a strike but Jack rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Jack tries to free his leg and advance position but Hayes is retaining full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jack wants to control from the top but Hayes keeps moving.
Hayes striking off his back but it's not causing Jack any problems.
Hayes is pulling down on Jack's head. It's preventing any offense from Jack, at least for the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Jack fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jack tries to clinch but Hayes moves out of range.

Jack fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hayes sprawls well initially but Jack persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Jack is trying to control the action in half guard but Hayes is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Jack stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Jack shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jack was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hayes tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Jack trying to control but Hayes is having none of it.
Hayes swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Jack throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Jack is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hayes can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Jack is working for a guillotine from mount but Hayes frees his head quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hayes makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Jack is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hayes's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Jack wants to control the position but Hayes says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Jack is looking to escape.
James Jack has got the better of the ground game so far.
Jack is concentrating on defense, preventing Hayes from advancing position.
Jack wants to improve his position but Hayes is controlling well.
Hayes passes into side control, despite Jack's attempt to control the position.

Hayes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Jack, who protects the arm well.
Jack takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Hayes is trying to get an arm triangle but Jack is defending well.
Jack trying to control but Hayes flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Oooh a big shot gets through from Hayes. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Jack is trying to break free.

Hayes is persistently looking for the submission but Jack is defending it well.
Jack can't escape the position.
Jack looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hayes throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Jack!

Jack defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Hayes's arms.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hayes seems keen to control Jack's posture.

You can see the frustration on Jack's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jack tries to buck Hayes off but Hayes is having none of it.

Hayes is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jack is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Jack is trying to work for a sweep but Hayes has mounted him!
Jack is looking to get to half guard.
Jack is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Jack tries to reverse the position but Hayes maintains control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hayes cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Hayes goes for an armbar but Jack turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Jack.

Hayes trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Hayes wants to get back to his feet but Jack is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Jack gets to his feet. Hayes looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Hayes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Jack has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hayes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hayes postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Hayes keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jack's head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Darryl Hayes.
Well Hayes has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
