Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brad Blackburn (ranked 24581 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iain Waddell (ranked 5216 p4p, 0 weight class). Iain Waddell will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brad Blackburn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Iain Waddell!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Waddell shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Blackburn is trying to defend but Waddell finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Waddell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Blackburn defends it well.
Blackburn could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Waddell lands a nice short elbow.
Waddell looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Waddell is taking a breather. Blackburn says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waddell trying to advance position but Blackburn counters by regaining guard.
Waddell slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Waddell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Waddell stopping the sweep attempt from Blackburn.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Waddell passes Blackburn's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Waddell is looking to advance position but Blackburn won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Waddell sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Waddell landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Waddell seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Let's hope that Waddell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Waddell moves nicely into side control.
Waddell controls the position from side control.
Waddell is chipping away with strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Waddell tries to stand but Blackburn is controlling his head.

Waddell looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Blackburn is looking for a sweep.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Waddell wants to stand but Blackburn has his arm trapped.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Iain Waddell dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Waddell tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Blackburn paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Blackburn tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Waddell manages to circle out of the way.

Waddell has closed the distance and engaged Blackburn in a clinch.

Waddell jumps guard.
Blackburn might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Waddell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Blackburn's guard.

Waddell tries to stand but Blackburn is controlling from the bottom.
Blackburn working a defensive guard but Waddell manages to pass into side control anyway.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Waddell lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blackburn on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Blackburn gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waddell postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Blackburn looks a forlorn figure.
Blackburn is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Waddell swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
