PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Tepes (ranked 271 p4p, 35 weight class) and Hans Hermann Hoppe (ranked 410 p4p, 54 weight class). Hoppe has chosen Wind of Change as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bruno Tepes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hans Hermann Hoppe!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoppe is looking to chop away at Tepes's legs.
Tepes lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Hoppe throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tepes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hoppe is in Tepes's guard.
Hoppe wants to pass the guard but Tepes is keeping the position.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hoppe working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Tepes has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Hoppe postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoppe trying to control but Tepes is working from the bottom.
Hoppe throws a big elbow that misses.
Hoppe has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hoppe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tepes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hoppe is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Hoppe is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hoppe trying to control but Tepes is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tepes is controlling Hoppe's posture.
Hoppe wants to pass the guard but Tepes is keeping the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Hoppe is working Tepes over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hoppe passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Hoppe wants to control but Tepes is keeping him busy.

Tepes is looking to reverse the position.
Hoppe throws a strike aimed at the side of Tepes's head but Tepes avoids it well.
Hoppe tries to move to mount but Tepes blocks the move with his legs.
The referee asks Hoppe politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Hoppe prefers to stall for the moment though.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hoppe lands a few punches from side control.
Tepes is looking for a sweep.
Hoppe in side control, throwing shots but Tepes defends.
Hoppe trying to control the position but Tepes is working away.
Hoppe throws an elbow but Tepes slips to the side and avoids it well.

Tepes wants to control but Hoppe postures up.
Hoppe lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Tepes down.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hoppe misses with the ground and pound.
Hoppe in side control lands a decent elbow.

Hoppe creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Tepes sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Hoppe misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Hoppe works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Hoppe will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A little feinted left hand from Tepes on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Tepes connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Hoppe's hands.
Tepes lands a jab to Hoppe's midsection.
Hoppe moves out of range of the leg kick from Tepes.
Hoppe takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Hoppe checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
We've been told by Tepes's head coaches at Ryōzanpaku Dojo that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Hoppe walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Tepes scores with the left hand. Hoppe knows he should have avoided that one.
Hoppe throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tepes.
Hans Hermann Hoppe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hoppe blocks a leg kick.
Tepes sets himself, and Hoppe steps forward looking for the clinch! Tepes avoids it this time.

Tepes slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Nice sprawl there from Tepes as Hoppe shoots in.

Hoppe creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Tepes sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Hoppe looks up at the clock and then as Tepes takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Hoppe smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Hoppe might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Tepes haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Hoppe is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tepes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Hoppe shoots in for a double leg but Tepes sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Horrible takedown attempt by Hoppe or perhaps it was just good defense by Tepes, which made it look bad.
Tepes was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Tepes connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Hoppe uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tepes.
Hoppe is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Tepes lands with an uppercut that bounces Hoppe off the cage and back into range.
Hoppe shoots in and drives through. Tepes sprawls well.

Bruno Tepes showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hoppe has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Hans Hermann Hoppe decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
