PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Iron Man (ranked 5412 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Bond (ranked 7413 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Iron Man!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Bond!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bond takes one to the side of the head.
Bond on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Bond drives through and clinches with Man against the cage.
Man tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bond just stands there and leans against the cage.
Man tries to pull guard but Bond forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Bond goes for a takedown in the clinch but Man prevents it.
Man has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bond avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Iron Man. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Man lands a knee to the body.
Bond will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Man up against the cage.

Bond's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bond tries to score a power double leg takedown but Man sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bond somewhat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Man has Bond up against the cage in a clinch.
Man wants to take the fight to the mat but Bond manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Man taking a breather.

Bond gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Man wants to control but Bond is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bond thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Man's head.
Man is positioning himself well to prevent Bond advancing to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bond not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Man on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Bond is trying to work for a kimura but Man is defending well.
Bond looks to land a strike but Man avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Man working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bond doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bond manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Bond content to stall in guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Man is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Man is looking to stand up but Bond isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Man buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Man misses with a leg kick
and Bond counters with a left to the body.
Man leaves Bond with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Man darts in and clinches Bond up against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bond missing with knees to the body.

Man jumps guard and drags Bond to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Bond wants to control from the top but Man keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Iron Man will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Man changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bond looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bond manages to get back to half guard.
Bond trying to control but Man postures up.
Bond slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Bond keeping full guard, as Man tries to pass.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bond looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Man won't allow Bond to sweep him here.

Man is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Bond is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bond is breathing heavily.
Bond wants to stand but Man is controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bond wants to control but Man postures up.
Man moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Man is trying to get an arm triangle but Bond is defending well.

Man is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Bond is trying to escape and Man transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Bond is forced to tap! Nice work there by Man! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Iron Man!
