Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Mortician (ranked 5175 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roberto Cruz (ranked 6559 p4p, 0 weight class). Roberto Cruz is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Mortician!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Roberto Cruz!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Michael Johnstone and Dirk Anderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mortician doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Cruz shoots in looking for a takedown. Mortician tries to sprawl out of it but Cruz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mortician manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mortician could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mortician changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cruz tries to avoid it but Mortician manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cruz to the ground. Cruz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Cruz counters with a stiff right hand.
Mortician is trying hard to land a takedown here. Cruz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Cruz tries to counter by closing the distance.
Cruz cracks Mortician with a right hand to the side of the head.

Cruz forces Mortician back against the cage and clinches.
Mortician drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Cruz gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Mortician. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cruz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mortician uses from the top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Mortician stuffs the takedown.
Cruz wants to clinch up but Mortician keeps it at a distance.

It looks like Mike Mortician has been cut.

and Cruz counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Cruz is pressing down on Mortician's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Cruz is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Cruz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mortician is fending him off so far but Cruz persists. Nope, Mortician circles away and we're back to standing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mortician stands up over Cruz, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Cruz isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Mortician stacks Cruz on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Mortician!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cruz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Mortician wants to control from the top but Cruz keeps moving.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Mortician shoots in looking for a takedown but Cruz manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Mortician's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mortician shoots in for a double leg but Cruz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Cruz shoots in but no luck this time.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Cruz enables Mortician to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Cruz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Cruz closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mortician circles away.

Mortician tries to pull guard but Cruz won't allow it.

Cruz is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Mortician presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cruz lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Mortician backwards.
Cruz is looking to break free of the clinch but Mortician has double underhooks.
Cruz trying to control the position but instead, Mortician has worked for underhooks and has pushed Cruz into the cage.

Roberto Cruz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Cruz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
