Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lauri Pekkarinen (ranked 1898 p4p, 234 weight class) and Buzz Meeks (ranked 1689 p4p, 218 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lauri Pekkarinen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Buzz Meeks!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meeks fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pekkarinen throws a hook to the side of Meeks's head but Meeks sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Meeks gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pekkarinen to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Pekkarinen postures up in Meeks's guard and throws a big left but Meeks blocks it.
Pekkarinen prevents Meeks from getting back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pekkarinen is working Meeks over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Pekkarinen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pekkarinen trying to control but Meeks is working from the bottom.

Meeks is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Meeks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pekkarinen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pekkarinen has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Kombat Hangar 18 in the buildup to the fight.

Pekkarinen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Pekkarinen throws a big right hand that misses.
Pekkarinen stops Meeks from standing up.
Pekkarinen tries to free his leg and advance position but Meeks is retaining full guard.
Pekkarinen is looking to work some ground and pound but Meeks has wrist control.
Pekkarinen lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Pekkarinen trying to control but Meeks is working from the bottom.

Pekkarinen won't allow Meeks to get back to his feet.

Meeks has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the ropes to get back to his feet. Pekkarinen has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the ropes.

Meeks breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Pekkarinen wants to clinch.
Meeks looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Meeks gets tackled into the ropes by Pekkarinen. Pekkarinen maintains the clinch.

Pekkarinen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pekkarinen closes the distance and clinches up with Meeks, looking for a takedown. Pekkarinen pushes Meeks against the ropes but Meeks circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Pekkarinen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Meeks sprawls well initially but Pekkarinen persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Pekkarinen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pekkarinen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Meeks knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lauri Pekkarinen dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Meeks steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Pekkarinen. That one must have hurt.
Meeks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pekkarinen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Pekkarinen looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Meeks moves into the clinch.
Meeks throws a head punch that misses.

Meeks escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pekkarinen chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Meeks can pounce on him.

It looks like Lauri Pekkarinen has been cut.
Meeks tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pekkarinen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Meeks stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Meeks wants it to stay on the feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pekkarinen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Meeks's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Pekkarinen is stalling in the full guard.
Meeks wants to stand and escape but Pekkarinen is having none of it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pekkarinen lands a nice leg kick that just misses Meeks's sensitive parts.
Pekkarinen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Pekkarinen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Meeks paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Buzz Meeks is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pekkarinen shoots for a takedown but Meeks saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lauri Pekkarinen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Meeks lands a right hook to the body.
Pekkarinen tests Meeks's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Meeks is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Meeks is looking to clinch but Pekkarinen is avoiding it.

Meeks throws a half hearted mid kick.
Pekkarinen looks for a takedown but Meeks sprawls well.
Meeks lands with an uppercut that bounces Pekkarinen off the ropes and back into range.

Buzz Meeks showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Meeks felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pekkarinen lands a nice short elbow.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Pekkarinen dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Pekkarinen cracks Meeks with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Meeks fails with an attempt to clinch.
Meeks defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pekkarinen.

Pekkarinen clinches.
A short uppercut from Meeks.
Meeks blocks an uppercut.
Pekkarinen blocking some punches.
Meeks scores with a shoulder strike.

Meeks breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Meeks takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Meeks tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pekkarinen throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pekkarinen shoots in for a takedown but Meeks shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Meeks displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Pekkarinen.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lauri Pekkarinen showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Pekkarinen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Lauri Pekkarinen decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
