Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Julio Cesar Sitsongrit (ranked 279 p4p, 31 weight class) and Magnus Thoressen (ranked 2026 p4p, 239 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Cesar Sitsongrit!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Magnus Thoressen!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thoressen gets off balance looking for a body kick

and Sitsongrit counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Thoressen manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Sitsongrit is trying to pull guard but Thoressen has him pressed against the cage.

Thoressen wanted to stand there but Sitsongrit had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sitsongrit is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sitsongrit looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Nice takedown defense from Thoressen. No joy for Sitsongrit on that attempt.
Magnus Thoressen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thoressen wants to slow Sitsongrit down by chopping away at his legs.

Thoressen throws a hook to the side of Sitsongrit's head but Sitsongrit sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Thoressen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sitsongrit. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Sitsongrit swings around for an armbar but Thoressen sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Sitsongrit's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Thoressen stands up from Sitsongrit's guard - Thoressen perhaps looking for a knockout.
Thoressen pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
An attempted straight right counter from Sitsongrit misses the target.

and Sitsongrit decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Thoressen's guard.
Thoressen is looking to stand back up but Sitsongrit counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Thoressen.

Sitsongrit is taking a breather. Thoressen says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Sitsongrit is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Thoressen has managed to free his arm - good work.

Sitsongrit wants to work for an arm triangle but Thoressen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Thoressen is refusing to be controlled, as Sitsongrit sits in half guard.

Sitsongrit is looking to advance position but Thoressen won't allow it.
Thoressen pushes Sitsongrit off looking to stand but Sitsongrit dives back in and keeps control.
Sitsongrit moves into full mount! Thoressen won't be happy about that!
Sitsongrit trying to control but Thoressen is having none of it.
Thoressen is in all sorts of trouble here.

Sitsongrit goes for an armbar but Thoressen turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Thoressen.
Thoressen is fighting to break Sitsongrit's control of his arms but Sitsongrit is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Magnus Thoressen will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Sitsongrit walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Thoressen misses with a kick to the body

and Sitsongrit counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Sitsongrit.

Sitsongrit tries to free his leg and advance position but Thoressen is retaining full guard.
Sitsongrit sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Thoressen's guard.
Sitsongrit is looking to advance position but Thoressen won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sitsongrit frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Thoressen tries to hold on but Sitsongrit pushes him away.

Sitsongrit swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Thoressen is now in Sitsongrit's guard. A big mistake from Sitsongrit there, giving up the dominant position!
Sitsongrit bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thoressen's guard.

Sitsongrit passes Thoressen's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Sitsongrit works his foot free and advances to mount.
Thoressen is working to get back to half guard.
Thoressen has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Sitsongrit controlling well, preventing Thoressen from escaping the position.

Thoressen defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Sitsongrit's arms.
Thoressen rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Sitsongrit is trying to control. Thoressen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Sitsongrit is looking for a kimura but Thoressen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sitsongrit to get the leverage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sitsongrit looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Thoressen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Thoressen has one foot on Sitsongrit's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Sitsongrit stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thoressen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Thoressen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sitsongrit controls the pace.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Thoressen thuds his shin into the meat of Sitsongrit's side.
Sitsongrit takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Thoressen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sitsongrit manages to avoid it.
Sitsongrit tries to counter with a takedown but Thoressen is quick to defend against it.
Sitsongrit misses the shot to the body.
The fighters circling - Thoressen throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Thoressen misses with a body kick.
Thoressen's coach down at Lucky Liam's MMA Academy was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Thoressen's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Thoressen moves out of range of the strikes.
Sitsongrit throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thoressen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sitsongrit sees it coming and avoids it easily.

It looks like Julio Cesar Sitsongrit has been cut.
Thoressen misses with a body kick.
Thoressen connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sitsongrit. Sitsongrit circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Sitsongrit takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Sitsongrit has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Thoressen.
Thoressen throws a series of punches but Sitsongrit avoids them all with ease.
Sitsongrit was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Thoressen misses with a body kick.
Sitsongrit is looking to counter punch.
Thoressen throws a hook but Sitsongrit blocks it.
Magnus Thoressen seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Sitsongrit throws a body shot but no joy.

It looked like Sitsongrit was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Thoressen.
Thoressen staying out of range there.
Sitsongrit slips a straight right by Thoressen.
Thoressen scores with a punch to the head.
A combination from Thoressen does no damage.
Thoressen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sitsongrit looks to score with a jab to the body but Thoressen is just out of range.
Thoressen keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Sitsongrit appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Sitsongrit lands with a straight right. Thoressen didn't see that one coming.
Sitsongrit avoids a punch combination nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A solid leg kick lands there for Thoressen.

Thoressen misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A quick step to the side and Sitsongrit tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Magnus Thoressen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Sitsongrit counters with a takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Thoressen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Thoressen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Sitsongrit is looking to take a break and control but Thoressen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sitsongrit passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Thoressen!

Sitsongrit works his way to his opponent's back.

Sitsongrit is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Thoressen has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Sitsongrit looking to break Thoressen's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Thoressen remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Sitsongrit will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sitsongrit struggling to keep hold of the position.
What can Thoressen do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Sitsongrit is looking for the choke from the back position but Thoressen is controlling his hands well.
Thoressen is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Sitsongrit off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Will Sitsongrit go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Sitsongrit is trying to stick to Thoressen's back but Thoressen is turning into Sitsongrit. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Sitsongrit's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Thoressen.

Julio Cesar Sitsongrit decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
