Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kip Newman (ranked 6814 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carl Tonte (ranked 5279 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Kip Newman has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kip Newman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carl Tonte!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Bruno Lombardi and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Newman is trying hard to land a takedown here. Tonte sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Newman.
Tonte feints the counter takedown.

Tonte gets caught flat footed, as Newman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tonte wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tonte keeps trying to improve his position.

Newman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Newman misses with a two punch combination.
Tonte changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Newman shoots for a double leg takedown but Tonte sprawls well. He's pushed Newman's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kip Newman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Newman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kip Newman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Newman closes the distance and clinches.

Tonte is stalling here.

Tonte escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Newman feints and as Tonte raises his hands in defense, Newman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Newman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Tonte is looking to stand up but Newman isn't so interested in that idea.

Newman decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Newman gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Tonte stalling against the cage.
Newman tries to stall but Tonte uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Tonte decides to pull guard.
Newman lands a couple of elbows.

Newman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Tonte is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Tonte trying to strike off his back.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tonte has control of Newman's left arm, preventing Newman from doing any damage.
Newman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Newman is looking to work some ground and pound but Tonte has wrist control.
Newman wants to stand but Tonte has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Newman has a takedown stuffed.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Newman dives in for a single leg takedown but Tonte sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
No luck for Newman with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Kip Newman will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Newman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tonte's waist but Tonte gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Newman off to one side.
Tonte feints the counter takedown.
Tonte keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Newman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tonte tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Newman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Tonte is trying to control Newman's posture but Newman avoids it.

Tonte is letting Newman control him for a moment.
Tonte tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kip Newman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tonte struggling a bit here.
Tonte tries to improve position but can't.
An elbow from Newman crashes against the mat.
Tonte wants to control but Newman postures up.
Newman prevents Tonte from escaping the position.
Tonte is not content to let Newman control the position.

Newman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tonte, who protects the arm well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tonte tries to bench press Newman off him but Newman keeps the position.
Tonte can't do much from the bottom here.
Tonte managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Newman.
Tonte is looking to reverse the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee asks Newman politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Newman prefers to stall for the moment though.

Newman wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tonte, who protects the arm well.
Newman is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Tonte will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Newman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tonte knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Tonte is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Newman off and has taken his back!
Tonte lands with a hammerfist to the side of Newman's head.
Tonte throwing strikes from the back - he gets a warning from the referee for striking the back of the head but all these shots are hurting Newman!
Tonte scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.


Newman is rocked!
Newman staying busy and making it hard for Tonte to control.
Oh Newman is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Tonte is raining down hard shots and and Newman has had enough - he's tapped out due to the strikes!
