Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bo Nickal (ranked 252 p4p, 32 weight class) and Stanley Steele (ranked 1008 p4p, 123 weight class). Steele is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Manowar - Heart of Steel. Stanley Steele has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bo Nickal!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Stanley Steele!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steele looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nickal feinted with a counter takedown.
Steele throws a looping overhand right but Nickal ducks down to avoid it.
Nickal swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Steele misses with a jab to the body

and Nickal counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Nickal looking to pass the guard.

Steele escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nickal gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Steele is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Nickal wants to control from the top but Steele keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steele controls Nickal momentarily but Nickal frees himself.
Nickal scoring with some ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nickal connects with a couple of short punches.
Nickal passes Steele's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Steele tries to roll over but Nickal keeps him under control.

Steele looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Nickal prevents Steele from improving his position.
Nickal drops an elbow to the side of Steele's head.
Nickal seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.


It looks like Stanley Steele has been cut.
Nickal looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nickal connects with a nice short shot to Steele's temple.

Nickal looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Nickal frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Steele felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Steele is in a horrible position here. Nickal smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Nickal lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Steele wants to control but Nickal is having none of it.
Nickal is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Nickal has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Steele's face.
Nickal breaks from Steele's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Nickal lands a nice shot to the head.

Steele wants to hold on but Nickal pushes him away.
Steele is looking to improve his position but Nickal isn't that keen on the idea.
Nickal lands a big shot there that rocks Steele but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.


The cut above Stanley Steele's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Nickal landing strikes, looking to finish!

Nickal is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Steele has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Steele!
Nickal controls Steele momentarily but Steele frees himself.
Nickal tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Nickal looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Nickal has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Steele wants to stand but Nickal has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Steele trying to control the position from guard on top but Nickal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nickal manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Steele manages to get himself to full guard.

Steele working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nickal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nickal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Nickal throws a big right hand that misses.

Nickal has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Steele to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Nickal is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Steele pulls down on the head and he's put Nickal to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Stanley Steele!

An out of breath Stanley Steele thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
