Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Don Stewart (ranked 190 p4p, 28 weight class) and Alexander Pichushkin (ranked 815 p4p, 111 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Don Stewart!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexander Pichushkin!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Bruno Lombardi and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stewart takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Pichushkin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Stewart is trying to get back to full guard.
Pichushkin throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pichushkin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pichushkin missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Stewart won't allow Pichushkin to pass to mount.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stewart moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Stewart looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Pichushkin has picked Stewart up and slammed him! Stewart can't keep hold of the triangle and Pichushkin manages to pass to side control!
Stewart is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Julius Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Stewart is not content to let Pichushkin control the position.

Pichushkin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Stewart, who protects the arm well.

Stewart is trying to get back to half guard.

Pichushkin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Stewart tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Stewart is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pichushkin defends well.

Stewart escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Pichushkin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pichushkin is looking to advance position but Stewart has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

It looks like Alexander Pichushkin has been cut.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Stewart avoids the attempt from Pichushkin to control.
Stewart scoring with strikes but Pichushkin is staying in there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Don Stewart will probably get the nod.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Stewart counters with a nice body shot.
A lazy left from Pichushkin finds it's target.
Stewart connects with a body shot that sends Pichushkin's belly button to the back.
Pichushkin lands a glancing blow to the side of Stewart's head.
Stewart is trying hard to land a takedown here. Pichushkin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Stewart throws a lazy right hand but Pichushkin sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Stewart looks for the body kick but Pichushkin saw that one coming.

enabling Stewart to counter with a crisp jab.


That has opened up Alexander Pichushkin's cut even more.
Pichushkin misses with a low kick as Stewart jumps back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pichushkin fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Stewart fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pichushkin looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Pichushkin throws a right and a left that both miss.
Stewart half committed to a counter leg kick.
Pichushkin looks to land a right hand but Stewart moved out of range.
Stewart appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Pichushkin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pichushkin stuffs the takedown.
Pichushkin swings away with a body shot that misses
and Stewart counters with a nice uppercut.

The crowd cheers as Pichushkin lands an impressive looking overhand right. Stewart doesn't seem phased though.
Pichushkin throws a front kick aimed at Stewart's knee but Stewart avoids it well.
Pichushkin rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Stewart counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Pichushkin misses with a hook. Stewart ducked under it nicely.
Alexander Pichushkin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nice shot lands for Stewart.

Stewart throws a leg kick but Pichushkin sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Pichushkin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Pichushkin fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Stewart sprawls well initially but Pichushkin persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stewart is looking for a sweep. Pichushkin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pichushkin has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Pichushkin is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Stewart has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Stewart is desperately trying to improve his position but Pichushkin has a good base and remains in mount.
Alexander Pichushkin has got the better of the ground game so far.

Stewart tries to improve his position but Pichushkin has taken his back! Pichushkin has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Stewart tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Pichushkin pushes Stewart away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
