PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Lemony Snicket (ranked 5235 p4p, 366 weight class) and Hans Christian Anderson (ranked 5227 p4p, 365 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lemony Snicket!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hans Christian Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, John Mangel and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling eachother endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Snicket is trying hard to land a takedown here. Anderson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Anderson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Snicket throws a right and a left that Anderson avoids nicely.
Snicket shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anderson tries to move into range but Snicket moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Anderson shoots in but Snicket avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Snicket swats away the attempt to clinch by Anderson.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Snicket throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Anderson's waist but Anderson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Snicket off to one side.
Anderson unleashes a big counter combination but Snicket bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lemony Snicket. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Snicket shoots in looking for a takedown but Anderson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Snicket's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Anderson tries a head kick but it misses.

Anderson throws a wild body kick that Snicket sees coming a mile off.
Snicket is looking to counter punch.
Anderson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Anderson takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Horrible takedown attempt by Snicket or perhaps it was just good defense by Anderson, which made it look bad.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Snicket lands a jab to the nose.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Anderson goes for a double leg but Snicket avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Snicket continues to drive forward.
It appears Snicket was looking to counter with a kick there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lemony Snicket dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Snicket stalks Anderson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Anderson's face. Anderson staggers backwards, shaken.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Snicket as he avoids it easily.
Snicket misses with a takedown attempt
and Anderson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Snicket throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Anderson.
Anderson is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Anderson doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Snicket to counter with a crisp jab.

Snicket avoids a punch combination nicely.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Snicket will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Lemony Snicket is winning the standup battle so far.

Anderson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Anderson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Snicket is proving hard to escape from.

Snicket looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Anderson has picked Snicket up and slammed him! Snicket can't keep hold of the triangle and Anderson manages to pass to side control!

Anderson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Snicket shoots in but Anderson avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lemony Snicket. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Anderson dives in for a single leg takedown but Snicket sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
A solid body kick from Anderson.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Snicket tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Snicket misses with a wild combination.

Anderson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Snicket defends it nicely.
Snicket wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Hans Christian Anderson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Anderson dives in and scores a takedown into Snicket's guard.

Snicket is looking for a triangle but Anderson pushes his legs off easily.
Anderson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Anderson's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Anderson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Snicket is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Snicket wants to sweep but no luck.

Snicket working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Anderson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Anderson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Snicket looking for a guillotine here but Anderson defends easily.

Snicket is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Anderson is aware though and is defending well.

Anderson stands up and waves to Snicket to follow him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Anderson misses with a takedown attempt
and Snicket counters with a one-two to the body.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Anderson.
Lemony Snicket has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hans Christian Anderson.

Anderson blocks a head kick by Snicket.
Anderson lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Hans Christian Anderson.
I think Anderson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
