PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between William Emkimp (ranked 25029 p4p, 588 weight class) and Iain Waddell (ranked 4663 p4p, 446 weight class). Iain Waddell told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, William Emkimp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Iain Waddell!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Emkimp looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Waddell is controlling Emkimp's trapped leg to prevent Emkimp from advancing to side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Let's hope that Waddell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Waddell should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Emkimp throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Waddell is doing well to control the position and prevent Emkimp from advancing to side control.

Emkimp is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Waddell is just riding it out for now. Emkimp eventually gives up the hold.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Waddell holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Emkimp lands with a nice body punch.
Waddell gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Emkimp counters with a nice uppercut.
Emkimp tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Waddell with the counter takedown but Emkimp avoids it easily.

Emkimp fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Waddell to the ground. Emkimp is now in Waddell's guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Waddell holds on and takes a little breather.
Emkimp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Waddell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Emkimp has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Waddell pulls Emkimp in close to his closed guard and prevents Emkimp from doing any damage or advancing position.
Emkimp wants to control from the top but Waddell keeps moving.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Waddell is on top in guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Waddell's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Emkimp is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've been informed that Waddell has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Waddell stands up from Emkimp's guard - Waddell perhaps looking for a knockout.
Emkimp throws a head kick that misses

and Waddell counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Emkimp is breathing heavily.
Emkimp keeping moving, preventing Waddell from controlling successfully.
Emkimp knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Waddell on the ground.

Waddell drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Waddell jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Waddell stands and steps away. Emkimp gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Emkimp shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Waddell is trying to defend but Emkimp finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Waddell drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Emkimp manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Waddell has Emkimp in his guard.

Waddell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Emkimp's guard.

Emkimp pushes Waddell off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Waddell darts in looking for a takedown but Emkimp gets double underhooks and turns Waddell into the cage.

Emkimp fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Waddell sprawls well initially but Emkimp persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Waddell tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Emkimp manages to move to mount!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Emkimp looking to finish Waddell with some ground and pound. This is bad for Waddell!
Waddell is desperately trying to improve his position but Emkimp has a good base and remains in mount.

Emkimp wants to finish this one by submission but Waddell is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Emkimp.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Emkimp avoids the attempt from Waddell to control.
Waddell regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Iain Waddell will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Waddell goes for a double leg but Emkimp avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Emkimp continues to drive forward.
Emkimp went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Waddell dives in for a single leg takedown but Emkimp sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Emkimp shoots in and bounces Waddell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Emkimp has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Waddell is proving hard to escape from.
Waddell is pulling down on Emkimp's head to control his posture.
Emkimp is looking to stand up but Waddell won't let him.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Emkimp being controlled here momentarily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Waddell has a takedown stuffed.
William Emkimp has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Iain Waddell.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Waddell enables Emkimp to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Waddell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Waddell has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Emkimp has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Waddell is proving hard to escape from.

William Emkimp showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Emkimp has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
