And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 wins, 5 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brian Roper!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and Stewart Dunkirk.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Provenza misses with a shot to the body
enabling Roper to counter with a crisp jab.

Roper clinches with his opponent.
Roper misses with a punch on the inside.
Roper swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Roper doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Roper fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Roper misses with a punch to the body.
Provenza wants to take the fight to the mat but Roper manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Roper lands a body punch.

Provenza has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Roper is trying to keep an underhook but Provenza manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Provenza prevents Roper from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Provenza is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Provenza is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Roper has managed to free his arm - good work.
Provenza not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roper is looking to improve his position.
Provenza looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Provenza is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roper is just riding it out for now. Provenza eventually gives up the hold.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roper can do anything to dispel that myth.
Provenza lands with a punch from half guard.

Provenza is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Roper defends it well.
Provenza throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Roper is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Ground and pound from Provenza.
Provenza has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Provenza thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Roper's head.

Provenza is trying for a kimura here. Roper looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Provenza wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Silvio Provenza!
Silvio Provenza decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
