Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Octavio Saades (ranked 2313 p4p, 273 weight class) and Mauro Carnera (ranked 3231 p4p, 362 weight class). Carnera has chosen Bad Religion - Infected as his entrance music. Mauro Carnera has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mauro Carnera!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Darius Henderson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carnera takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Carnera creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Saades sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Saades parries the strikes from Carnera easily there. Carnera is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Saades to escape.

Carnera wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Saades, who protects the arm well.
Saades wants to control but Carnera postures up.
Carnera throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carnera throwing strikes but Saades manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Carnera gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Saades wants to work for an arm triangle but Carnera is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are battling for position here. Carnera manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Carnera wants to sweep here but Saades controlling him for the moment.

Carnera has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Carnera is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Saades is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Carnera working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Saades doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Saades manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Saades fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Carnera has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Carnera walks forward, straight into a front kick from Saades.

Carnera has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Carnera looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Saades with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mauro Carnera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Saades goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Saades feints and then cracks Carnera's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Carnera down.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Carnera throws a lazy right hand but Saades sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Saades looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Carnera is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Carnera throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Saades stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Saades.
Carnera looks to land a right hand but Saades moved out of range.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Octavio Saades.
Well Carnera has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
