PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between William Norman (ranked 2886 p4p, 365 weight class) and Vladamir Slamenkov (ranked 5718 p4p, 557 weight class). Norman comes to the cage accompanied by Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, William Norman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Vladamir Slamenkov!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slamenkov tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Slamenkov closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Norman's guard.

Norman has his hands on Slamenkov's head, controlling the position.
Slamenkov would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Slamenkov postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Norman is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Slamenkov, into his guard.


Slamenkov has his foot on Norman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Norman works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Norman passes into half guard.

Norman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Slamenkov defends it well.

Slamenkov wants to control but Norman is keeping busy.

Norman is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Norman connects with a nice short shot to Slamenkov's temple.
Slamenkov gets back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Slamenkov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Norman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Norman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Norman postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Slamenkov has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Norman is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Slamenkov.

Norman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Norman connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Slamenkov some visible discomfort.

Norman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Slamenkov has escaped the position, nice work there.
Slamenkov can't do much from the bottom here.
Slamenkov throws a couple of strikes there.
Slamenkov manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Slamenkov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Norman defends it well.
Norman preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Slamenkov is stalling here. Norman is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Slamenkov seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Norman has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Slamenkov looks frustrated here - throwing a couple of shots from the bottom though.
Slamenkov looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Slamenkov takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William Norman dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Slamenkov shoots in for a takedown but Norman shows good takedown defense.
Norman lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Slamenkov at a distance.
William Norman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Slamenkov shoots in looking for a takedown. Norman tries to sprawl out of it but Slamenkov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Norman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Slamenkov pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Norman lands with a kick to the ribs.
Norman moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

Slamenkov closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Norman to the mat! Norman manages to get full guard.

Norman pushes Slamenkov off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Slamenkov closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Slamenkov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Norman tries to avoid it but Slamenkov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Norman to the ground. Norman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
William Norman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vladamir Slamenkov.
Norman scores with a one two! Slamenkov had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Norman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Slamenkov can do to turn this around?
Norman lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Norman drops Slamenkov with a beautiful combination! Slamenkov stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Norman is looking for the KO!


Slamenkov is rocked!
William Norman is winning the standup battle so far.
Slamenkov is breathing heavily.
Norman is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Slamenkov flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Slamenkov is out cold! Norman holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). William Norman!
A very excited looking William Norman made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
