PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Riley Escobar (ranked 22830 p4p, 556 weight class) and Chief Slayer (ranked 2909 p4p, 326 weight class). Escobar kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Never Gone Get It. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chief Slayer!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Escobar lands with a kick to the ribs.
Escobar wants to clinch up but Slayer keeps it at a distance.

Slayer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Slayer lands in his opponent's guard.

Slayer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Escobar is on top in guard.

Slayer is looking for a triangle but Escobar pushes his legs off easily.

Slayer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Escobar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Escobar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Escobar connects with a nice short shot to Slayer's temple.

Escobar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Slayer felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Escobar rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Slayer moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Slayer manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Escobar on his heels. He'll look to pass Escobar's guard now, I'm sure.

Slayer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Escobar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Slayer has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Escobar is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Slayer.

Well Escobar has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Riley Escobar spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
