PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Damien Ortega (ranked 5239 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonh Slerssi (ranked 6824 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Damien Ortega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jonh Slerssi!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Daniel Cesar and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A thudding body kick lands there by Slerssi!
Horrible takedown attempt by Ortega or perhaps it was just good defense by Slerssi, which made it look bad.
Slerssi misses with a head kick.
Slerssi misses with a double jab

so Ortega counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ortega stands and throws Slerssi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Slerssi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ortega. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ortega decides to stand back up.
Ortega moves in looking to clinch but Slerssi pushes him off.
Ortega avoids a kick to the body.

Slerssi has Ortega up against the cage in a clinch.
Slerssi tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Slerssi with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Slerssi throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Ortega blocks it with crossed arms.

Ortega jumps into guard, dragging Slerssi to the mat.
Ortega keeping moving, preventing Slerssi from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ortega pulls Slerssi in close to prevent any damage.
Ortega trying to strike off his back.
Ortega looking for a sweep. Not yet Ortega, not yet.

Ortega working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Slerssi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Slerssi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Slerssi trying to control the position from guard on top but Ortega is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Ortega manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Slerssi manages to get himself to full guard.

Ortega connects with a couple of short punches.
Ortega tries to stand but Slerssi is controlling from the bottom.
Ortega with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Slerssi is trying to keep Ortega in close.
Ortega is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ortega won't allow Slerssi to sweep him here.

Ortega advances to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ortega content to control rather than advance.
Ortega's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Slerssi lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Slerssi connects with a leg kick. Ortega looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Ortega looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Slerssi!
We've been informed that Slerssi has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Slerssi looks to move to half guard but instead Ortega has passed into mount! Damn!
Ortega controlling the pace for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Ortega dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Ortega counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Slerssi is wriggling around but Ortega manages to pass to half guard.


Ortega is trying for a kimura here. Slerssi looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Ortega wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:28 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Damien Ortega!
